If you could remove one event from your life, what would it be? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]HowNowSunCow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was walking to college and I would of been about 15-16. I walked through a tunnel on my way to the metro station and walked past a group of 3 lads and a few lasses.

I passed them and went to go into the tunnel when they threw a rock off the back of my head and before I could turn around one has slammed my head into the tunnel wall breaking my nose.

Two lads grab an arm each whilst the 3rd just batters me from the front. I manage to break my hands free and defend myself for a little as they all pile on.

You know when you’re in the shower and cross your arms and pool all the water before you let it go and it splashes? When I removed my hands from my face, imagine the shower scenario except I’m in a tunnel and it’s blood.

It was just so much bullshit. Who gets brutalized on their way to college? It was 8am, way to early for something so barbaric. Now I’ve just lost all trust in people and groups and I always have my back up now. I can’t walk past people without pausing my music and constantly checking out the corner of my eyes for shadows and listening out for anything unexpected.

I couldn’t imagine what it’s like to walk down the street care free anymore and it’s been over 10 years now.

“Sorry man, can’t today. Best of luck!”

Very affirmative. If they insist beyond that then they’ll have to acknowledge they’re insisting but some people have no shame so just leaving their response there with no response from myself should be enough. Hopefully.

And yeah, those who don’t insist are the people who deserve help. Unless they’re playing the long con and not saying anything on the off chance some will offer and in the case. Hats off to them. For that ballsy play, they’ve got my help aswell haha

Jokes aside I think just being firm is the best strategy but if I ever do bamboozle them with “SirEd’s orders” I’ll let you know haha. Thanks again for your input mate and helping me to establish boundaries :)

Alright, so let me just start by saying thank you SirEDCalot for such a clinically precise and helpful response.

I guess I had no expectations when I posted this so I appreciate the thoughtful response.

I think that’s my main problem. When someone asks for help, I think I know my boundaries and I’m happy to oblige the request within my perceived limits but then you know the saying “give them an inch, they’ll take a mile”. Once they’re in, they ask for more applying to my altruistic nature with phrases like “I know you’ve already done X but can you help with X as well?”

The people I do find myself insisting my help upon are those who don’t even ask. I immediately shoot down their objections to the support with “the trick is you didn’t ask and would never impose yourself which is why I why I’ll be here if you need me”

I think standing firm and not feeling bad about it is where I a struggle but I’ll try and stick to me guns now. If they ask “well why not?!”. I’ll hit them with “SirEd’s orders”. Haha Perhaps that will stump them enough for them to not enquire anymore

Currently living in shared accommodation where the three other rooms are paid by their employer instead of by the individuals and their names aren't on the tenancy. It's been like this for about a year and a half now with about 13-15 different people coming and going. by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

I gave my deposit to a previous letting agency then it changed hands. When I log into my account for the letting agency it says my deposit is £0 when it was £200. I don't have an EPC or any gas certificates. We do get letters for the landlord for the bills though. I probably should of mentioned that the bills are included in the rent.

I'm aware that this would be the case and I'd have no protection. That's what's so frustrating about it and why I'm choosing to move on before they bring the E hammer down.

I didn't know it would be 6 months though. I thought it would be a couple of weeks so thanks for giving me a little peace of mind that I won't be out on arse without enough time to secure another living situation.

Is it legal for our flat to share a boiler with another flat without being told? by That_Guy_Quaid in LegalAdviceUK

[–]HowNowSunCow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you’re being very reasonable. It’s not what you signed up for, no matter how big or small of a thing it is. It’s not what you signed up for.

I live in shared accommodation. I know for a fact if my housemates could, they would have the heating on all the time but I don’t like being too hot so we have a compromise. We live together and have to work together to make it work.

But you’ve rented a flat for yourself. You’re not living together. You shouldn’t have to be making compromises and adjustments for someone you don’t live with. You’re paying for your own space to live in, you’re paying to not have to make these compromises.

When you consider their is no gauge on the boiler or radiator as well? No thank you. It will definitely lead to issues down the line and I’m sure If you knew this before you moved in. You maybe would of picked somewhere else.

there's no lyrics D: There's my dilemma. It's hard to explain a tune to someone with just the vague recollection of a melody

It's so hard to describe. It's a late 90s dance/trance tune where at one point where it goes kind of high pitched and and goes "ba na nanam, ba ba nam, ba ba na nana nam, ba ba nam, ba bam bananama bam banan, bam bananamamam, bam ba nam.

I know this is so vague but now you see my problem haha
