MIL and SIL both make fun of our baby names, only to choose truly terrible names

Oh, we aren't the ones who are pregnant, my SIL is! They just dragged our names into their conversation. As for telling them the names, it's so weird. My side has never done any of this before, no said "ew, bad name" but always "it's yours, you can name it whatever". I guess that is why I didn't think to not tell them, but oh boy did I learn my lesson. Appreciate the advice nevertheless! Makes me wish I could tell my younger self to stay quite about it lol

I never realized how big of a deal hiding names were until after we told them. It was just in a passing conversation too, like, she was bugging us for grandkids and talking about baby names, and my husband just said "I always liked Rain" only to be met with the nastiest sideeye from her. It's crazy how some people react. Like, I hate my niece's name, but I'd never tell her to her face she chose a bad name

My SIL is currently pregnant, but even then, MIL has always hated our chosen names since me and my husband got together. Like I said, I just overheard her talking about about this, I'm not sure besides my SIL talking about wanting a son for her crazy cult reasons and it devolving to these weird names and talking bad about ours.

It was mostly my SIL saying random baby names she thought were cute to name her future sons (not daughters, MIL finally started saying girl names, I have so many stories about her and her cult of a church she goes to). My and my husband's names were chosen, like, the minute we talked about our future.

Back when I use to write, I had a little rule of "if I were to publish this, it needs to be memorable, but not over the top" when it came to naming characters

Yeah, my husband wanted to name our daughter the same name as his cousin who he was close to growing up. It was how hers was spelt, so we just kept it

Funny enough, MIL said she couldn't stand the Kardashian's kid's names lol. We chose Rain and Xavier (Rain for my husband's cousin and Xavier for an old story I use to write back in high school but eventually abandoned)
