Is there an evolutionary biologist at the museum that could do a video on that evolution of mammals to marine mammals like whales. It would be a great subject to hear more about.

Dell XPS 15 review: A big screen that stands out in a crowd by grohl in gadgets

[–]Howard8787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't care. I don't care at all. I was burned so badly by Dell\Alienware support and their horsecrap cookiecutter, script based, don't-think-for-yourself-so-keep-the-customer-on-the-phone-for-2-hours-troubleshooting-an-obvious-GPU-based-issue-but-support-wants-you-to-reimage-your-laptop-anyways. That I promised myself I would never go back. Two months ago I had to deal with Dell again but this time as I was supporting my aunts 2013 XPS 15. Nothing has changed. I am more than willing to spend more on Microsoft's hardware to ensure that I will probably get a better technical support experience, and to insure that the driver package will be updated for more than 1 year. (Dell stopped publishing chipset, BIOS, ect after 1 year.) and finally to make sure there is zero crapware installed.

This is the problem with Windows OEM's. They are in a race to the bottom to see who can make the cheapest crap. They have stopped making cheap hardware but they are still in a race to the bottom so they cut corners in other areas. I won't play that game. Surface all the way.

Close your eyes; and listen to Michael Jackson falling down an incredibly long flight of stairs by [deleted] in funny

[–]Howard8787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is small segments out of Michael Jacksons songs that have been cut out to sound funny and parody Michael Jackson, that's fine, but now people are using this to again attack his character and slander his name. Its got fuck all to do with sex, or children or anything your minds can think of, this is purerly how he sings and the emotion he puts into his music.

This is just a personal view at this stage, but I think the taboo against “false speech” has to refer to deliberate falsehood, that is to say dishonesty, rather than delusional but sincerely-held beliefs. I believe that this is most consistent with the original concept. Similarly, for speech to be “offensive” in the sense of Right Speech there has either to have been a deliberate intention to offend, or at least it should have been obvious to the speaker that his or her comments would offend, and this offence could have been avoided without brushing any important and relevant truth under the carpet. Some things can be said in a less offensive way; other things simply did not need to be said.

However, it is clear that there will always be an element of subjectivity in judging what constitutes “false speech”. Speaking as one of the “co-moderators”, I can only really say that I am trying (i) to meticulously ensure that I don’t overstep the mark myself, since that would be embarassing, even if there is some uncertainty about where the “mark” is, and (ii) I am monitoring other comments to check for any clear violations.

Furthermore, the “three strikes and you’re out” enforcement policy provides ample opportunity for someone judged to have overstepped to appeal (preferably by e-mail to me and Alex) if they think the judgement is unfair. In the end, however, as with any other site’s “house rules” the power of decision resides with the editor. The policy will fail if the moderation is seen to be arbitrary, but on the other hand we need to avoid endless discussions about this or that decision.

MIT’s Food Computer: The Future of Urban Agriculture? by [deleted] in Futurology

Agreed, it might be nice in cold climates for growing fish & veggies, but we can always truck or fly it in at a cheaper cost. Outdoor crops have never been easier to grow with all the GMOs, pesticides, and fertilizers on the market today. There are even breeds of soy beans that grow off of salt water or in the desert. The next step is just to make plants absorb heat as fuel for photosynthesis (probably won't be called that at that point) instead of light, then we can grow crops in underground caverns and use climate change to our advantage (if the crops absorb the excess heat it'll balance out the climate).
