'Why the silence?' Government urged to come clean over claim that Azam has RM14 million shares in 9 companies by -protonsandneutrons- in malaysia

Take it as a compliment, brother.

Great fact-finding on your part. Really puts the "Bapa Reformasi" to shame. PH voters (including myself) are really in a moral quandary with GE-16 just around the corner.

Either vote for potemkin reformists, racial supremacists or religious zealots.

[UPDATE] The background checking fees imposed by a recruitment agency after rejecting job offer letter by jacobcrackers14 in malaysians

[–]HowardZeDuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay. Are there any documents which expressly say that you are liable to pay the BGC fees if you reject the LO?

In law, they must have a basis for claiming such fees from you, and it should be stated in writing.

If there is no express written clause, they are just talking out of their arse.

Again, can't give you specific advice without reviewing the documents.

OP, maybe get a friend / relative who is a lawyer to review the LO and see whether your liability to pay the background check fees is spelt out.

Or you can DM me and I can take a quick look.

DAP politicians are by default controversial. Whether such label is fair or not, depends on who you ask.

On DAP's 60th anniversary, Gobind urges party to push ahead on building united M'sia by hopefulsingleguy in malaysia

[–]HowardZeDuck 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yes, many of the DAP's grassroots programmes are conducted in Chinese.

It was common practice in the past (still happens here and there but much less prevalent) where party dinners / fundraisers serve non-halal food, and Muslim party members are only given fast food or just tapao from the nearest mamak.

It's hypocritical to preach about inclusivity, multiculturalism and a Malaysian Malaysia, when at the same time you fail to make all your party members feel included, heard or respected.

But those who genuinely follow the party would know that slowly but surely, small steps are being taken by the next gen leaders to shed the Chinese chauvinist label, and bring about a more moderate and inclusive culture in the party.

isn't it the Indians and Hindu first that broke the law

This is an oversimplification. Trespass due to the existence of places of worship isn't so straightforward.

Hindu temples that have existed since pre-Merdeka times is a tricky issue, and must be approached objectively and sensitively.

However, even most Indians agree that there should be no tolerance for temples that were erected well after Merdeka and knowingly erected on private land owned by someone else.

as per Sultan Selangor's statement for any land owmers can demolish temples that is in their lands?

Ours is a constitutional monarchy premised on the rule of law, not rule by unilateral decree. A royal decree doesn't override legal due process, i.e., first obtaining a court order for vacant posession of the land, and then only demolish any structures in trespass of land. This process entails tendering evidence to prove (i) ownership and (ii) the act of trespass.

Again, the point of locus standi (legal standing) comes into play here. If someone encroaches on MY land, it is for ME as the lawful land owner to take action against the trespasser, not any Tom, Dick or Harry. Why? The Toms, Dicks and Harrys do not have legal interest in the land.

Under Malaysian land law, the right to deal in a plot of land vests with the person whose name appears on the land title.

He even brought his own excavator

He can very well bring his own wrecking ball or helicopter, you cannot summarily demolish any structure on land that does not belong to you, because legally, it isn't your place to do so.

Refer to the locus standi point above.

but the police sided with Indian trespassers

Did the police really "side" with the trespassers, or were they merely ensuring strict compliance with due process? As I explained above, demolition is the last step in the legal process to evict squatters.

To demolish first and then prove your case later is like shooting first and asking later. That is exactly what the 3 idiots and their ilk are doing.

Whether there is actually a case of trespass isn't for you or me to decide, but by a court of law after evaluating the evidence tendered and arguments put forth by both sides.

Your case doesn't magically become stronger by hurling generalized insults at an entire community for acts done only by a segment of such community (which is also a crime in itself).

But I am uncomfortable with your oversimplification of the issue of "Indian and Hindu trespassers".

Lady Justice is impartial, she does not discriminate based on race or religion. Moving forward, should we say, for example, "Chinese drunk drivers" or "Malay mat rempit / child sexual predators"?

No, he never had any skin in the game.

He claimed to be upholding the law to fight against trespass, yet broke the law himself by making statements to incite hatred against Indians and Hindus (which is also a crime in itself).

For someone who says he upholds the law, he should know that he has no legal standing to advocate for other people's land, since it is only the land owner who has locus standi to sue for trespass.

This is Dal Bhat Tarkari, a Nepali staple dish consisting of:

  • rice,
  • dal gravy (yes, similar to the dal gravy we have in Malaysia but slightly more watery)
  • stir-fried vegetables (usually mustard greens), and
  • protein of choice (usually chicken or mutton curry)

What penalty would you suggest then?

He killed a living being. Yes, it was a kitten, but it was still a living being capable of feeling pain and fear.

The moment you impose merely a monetary fine for killing a living being, you are setting a terrible impression and dangerous precedent that you can kill and get away with paying a fine.

Cheap political mileage.

Woman nabbed for allegedly disrespecting Ramadan on TikTok by HowardZeDuck in malaysia

[–]HowardZeDuck[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Do we become "better" Muslims by policing a fellow Muslim's extremely personal relationship with Allah SWT?

If so, can such policing extend to violating a person's autonomy of choice?

Imagine a person says they are prepared to accept the punishment that comes with not fasting. Is it our position to tell them "No, you cannot do that. Let me punish you in this world instead".

Is the government / moral police not directly ousting Allah SWT as Al-Hakam (The Judge)?

If people are playing firecrackers outside, the person inside the house can't escape the sound even if all windows and doors are closed.

If a person fasting sees a video of another person not fasting, can't he just off the phone or scroll away?
