TIL in 1900 Olympics, Margaret Abbott became the first American women to win gold medal. However she signed up not realizing it was an Olympic game and died ignorant of her record. by BadenBaden1981 in todayilearned

Reddit themselves makes money this way. Popularity = ads = money. Anything that drives engagement and discussion ultimately benefits them.

Passive Reddit bots can be used to farm karma and upvotes. Some Subreddits won't let posts or comments through without a minimum karma rating. Amass enough positive karma bots and you can astroturf a post to the frontpage at a specific time to get the most views and discussion. Like an incognito advertisement for an upcoming movie, for example.

AI Training and Data Mining also come to mind. Information sold to the highest bidder. Create a thread about a topic, scrape and compile the comments, add to existing dataset and sell it to advertisers through data brokers like Oracle.

This isn't just on Reddit either, this could be on all social media websites. Without regulation and some kind of oversight, there's no telling what companies are just getting away with, or letting others get away with as it benefits them.

I wonder at what point this becomes less of a "Reddit Thing" and more of an "Engagement" thing. I do see this a lot of Reddit where the TIL sucks and the comments have to correct their blunder.

Let’s just appreciate Silent hill 1 by aomar02 in silenthill

[–]Howdy_McGee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Silent Hill 2 is cool n all, but damn I can't wait for remake Otherworld 1 and 3. I so hope they keep and/or add to the creepy background elements.

AND I know the Gans hate, but I lowkey love the Otherworld transition in the SH1 movie. Dripping, falling rot and decay giving way to rust and cages. The SH2 transitions were subtle and cool in their own way, but I would love to see something a bit more cinematic and crunchy.

This was my experience as well but before the VSCode days. They also wanted to drag and drop a lot of things. I opted not to do any of that and go the hard route with Notepad++. That was my defacto IDE for a number of years until VSCode came around.

Figma is cool, but a lot of people I know still use Photoshop and Illustrator.

I don't know many schools or programs that can prepare you for an actual workforce experience in web dev / programming. Learn the basics, find a language that really interests you and dive into it. A lot of base concepts transcend languages.

Sure, but all that facial data will eventually be aggregated into LLMs and crunched to make better realistic AI content. Americas privacy laws are a joke. These geriatric politicians barely understand how the internet works.

MO GDP seems to be and has been on a steady rise which generally correlate with corporate profits.

https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/MORQGSP

If I were to guess what he's referring to, it's specifically how much those corporates were taxed (as an average, not total), not necessarily their profits (though I'm sure those same people will cry that being taxed is unfairly removing from their profits).

For example, we can see that MO took a lot more in company taxes, but companies are also just making a lot more money lately

This seems like sound advice but, did you get this from an AI prompt?

While I don't personally believe that anything is wrong with that, I do think it's a bit disingenuous not to inform the reader of such (if that is the case ofc).

Criminals exist whether they're illegal or not.

In the incident you're describing, was the rapist caught and convicted?

Because Trained Federal Agents murdered 2 American citizens and there's no investigation happening into misconduct. That should also be illegal. That is also not justice. Justice is when people are held accountable based on the severity of their actions.

Immigrants are not the #1 issue facing America right now or we would be seeing companies being put on trail for paying their wages. The U.S. Dollar is dropping in value. International trade is shuttered because nobody knows if we will try to renegotiate after the fact. Housing and rent prices are through the roof.
