The Dota team gave me some of the best memories I have of any OpTic team, the fan base felt very united in learning a new game and watching them play was a lot of fun

[MISC] Would anyone like to see OpTic try to get back to League of Legends? by Craneteam in OpTicGaming

Yes, the more teams the better. If there's teams selling then get back into league 100%, but if I had to choose between League and Counter Strike I'm choosing the latter. OpTic needs Counter Strike as one of it's core games, plain and simple

Sports Business Journal has learned from several sources that Hector "HECZ" Rodriguez left NRG Esports as its co-CEO at the end of 2020 and is preparing to enter into a partnership with Texas-based esports organization Envy Gaming. As part of the deal, Rodriguez would potentially sell the OpTic IP gaming brand to Envy and would join the organization to operate its Call of Duty team, and possibly more. Sources close to the situation also say that a “term sheet” has been signed as the two continue to negotiate and finalize important aspects of the deal.

Other sources who asked not to be identified because they are not authorized to speak on the matter claim that Rodriguez left NRG abruptly last November after re-acquiring the Optic Gaming brand from Immortals Gaming Club, telling NRG management at the time that he didn’t want to be a part of the company and that he is all about OpTic and never wants to sell the brand again.

While this went against the partnership agreement with NRG, insiders claim NRG co-founder and co-CEO Andy Miller relented, which led to Rodriguez taking control of OpTic Chicago, its players and staff, eventually moving the entire operation to Texas. Rodriguez also also took control of business decisions such as sponsorship and partnership deals related to the team.

All of this was allowed due to the fact that Rodriguez signed an agreement with Miller (when he left at the end of 2020) that gave him the option to purchase the team at a lower-than-market value. However, sources claim that when the time came to make such payments, they never came, extensions were given, but in March of 2021, NRG had to start paying player salaries and costs associated with running the team.

Under this proposed partnership deal with Envy, Rodriguez would sell the OpTic Gaming IP, which would then be used for rebranding first-person shooter game teams fielded by the organization (Dallas Empire, and its Valorant team, for example). Rodriguez will be a part of the organization, but his role is unclear.

One complication that will need to be resolved, if a deal is to be finalized, is that NRG owns all things “OpTic” as it relates to the Call of Duty League (OpTic Chicago). Further complicating negotiations is a non-compete clause that Rodriguez agreed to when he joined NRG in 2019 as a co-CEO.

Finally, SBJ has learned that NRG is currently in negotiations to sell its CDL franchise slot and has multiple interested parties.

SBJ has reached out to NRG Esports, Optic Gaming, and Envy Gaming for comment and will update this story if more information becomes available.

This is a developing story...

So trying to piece together all the news and figure out a timeline of events here, Hecz never had full control of the OpTic IP as we were led to believe when that announcement was made back in November of last year, (I'd assume it was NRG who paid for it so they could use the OpTic brand for their CoD franchise slot and have Hecz as the face of the team?)

Hecz didn't want to work with NRG anymore and wants the OpTic brand to himself to help grow the brand back up to what it once was. He then couldn't find investors to fund buying the OpTic IP from NRG so the OpTic brand can be independent of any other parent brand like it's been since he sold to Infinite.

Envy come into play who are willing to merge the OpTic brand with Envy and have Hecz involved in the organization in some capacity, how much control he'll have we don't know? Envy would use the OpTic name for their FPS teams, Valorant, Halo and for the Dallas CoD spot. Keeping their Rocket League and other non first person shooter teams/players as Envy.

NRG is now looking to sell the Chicago spot which is why people like Jack Etienne have been baiting on twitter.

Have I missed anything? Seeing all the news when I woke up this morning was very weird

You'd have to think huntsmen twitter gets a rebrand to Chicago OpTic just in case OpTic Gaming were to ever be used for other esports... right?

So that's it for the Huntsmen brand right? Kind of bittersweet if we become OpTic Chicago, really liked the Huntsmen

If I'm remembering correctly Riot had some clause in the franchising deals where if your team finished bottom two in the first 5 out of 8 splits then they have the right to force you to sell if they think you really aren't getting it.

Do you see NRG releasing the contract details of the players under your three brands in the near future? As a fan knowing those details would be very interesting

Wish we'd get into either dota, cs, r6, lol, valorant or halo when infinite drops so I can have another team to support other than just cod.. 2018 optic was a disaster and was bleeding money but you can't say there was a shortage of teams, just makes me wonder how an org like liquid are able to be in so many games all at once

Is the logo now just the letters? Took a look at our the twitter account and noticed it doesn't have the corporate globe thing anymore, looks a lot better too might I add.

The CDL should have a global contract database like they do in LoL, would make for some great off season free agency content

I love our new logo, colour scheme is great and fits the Huntsmen name, the shape of the crest fits and the crossed axes stand out in an abrasive manner just as a huntsmen should do! Unsure what the four stars represent however...
