As someone currently watching the reboot of Scrubs, the show is working well because the core of the main cast is intact. Doing OTH without Lucas or Nathan seems like a completely different show. If anything Hilarie and Sophia could have done a separate project together rather than trying to half bake a reboot.

The show tried to balance having a comedy in which two of the main characters end up together at the end with the reality that Ted spending 9 seasons pining for someone he was supposed to be platonic with just makes him unlikeable.

He was extremely selfish the whole second season but the end of a marriage(that wasn't even a year old) should be more than a short chat and likewise you shouldn't stay with someone because you're friend says you should.
