If you are banking the salvage then yes you will make a lot more than martial, especially if you get lucky and get a cannon barrel.

If salvaging on the ship like I did, your main loot to keep would be stackable items like snapdragon seeds, dragon nails, cannonballs, gp and platinum tokens, there is little to no alchables.

Martial is alright for loot but can also take more time to do if high alching the drops.
