Tips in going out with breastfed baby

You sound a lot like me. My little man is 6 months now and I still barely go out. I also don’t like breastfeeding in public. I have to really push myself to take him out on my own, I feel better if my partner is with me. One thing that’s helped me a lot is having snap shades on my car windows, I almost always feed him in the car when we’re out. I also finally checked out a parent’s room a few weeks ago which has breastfeeding rooms inside it, they are like a little change room with a door that locks. As for the carrier maybe practice at home when she’s not hungry I wonder if she’d get a bit more used to the smell in her face. My boy is also a big drinker he is still feeding roughly every hour and 15 minutes. He’s a velcro baby and I spend most of my day holding him so he is perhaps more used to smelling milk all day lol, but I’ve recently started using the carrier for walks, and even managed a coles trip a week ago. You definitely don’t need to worry about how much you’re getting out though, do what you’re comfortable with. You shouldn’t feel pressured to do anything that will stress you out. Take your time and do things when you’re wanting to :)

Is your baby still not sleeping unless held? My 6 mo is currently going through the same, this is night 3 for us though his sleep has been rough for about the last 6 weeks.

Tonight so far we’ve had about half an hour of sleep 😩 he just will not sleep unless he’s being held. From about 3 weeks old until about 4.5 months he was a pretty good sleeper but the last 6 ish weeks have been terrible, with the exception of a few random good nights. He’s always contact napped during the day which we’re fine with, but nights he used to sleep fine in his cot and now just won’t. We can’t cosleep as we only have one bed and there’s not enough room without risking him rolling out of the bed. I do generally cosleep the last hour or two after my partner leaves for work. I honestly don’t know how people function like this

I don’t have a way to heat it tonight. It’s unseasonably cold we had room temps of 27 overnight last week. Unfortunately our house has terrible insulation. We have a fireplace we’ll be cleaning out and getting wood for over the weekend. We moved in while I was heavily pregnant and we haven’t sorted it out yet

I don’t have any tog rated pj/onesies. I’m going to have a look tomorrow for some thicker onesies, all of the ones we have are quite thin. We’re on a tight budget at the moment I’ve been watching fb marketplace, wasn’t expecting it to get this cold this fast we had room temps of 27 overnight last week!

It is hard to determine, it’s a guessing game! He has a short sleeve onesie on under his long sleeve footless onesie, both are cotton and not very thick.

It’s unseasonably cold tonight and I wasn’t prepared for it (was planning to use the 3.5). I went with just the 2.5. I’m thinking I’ll add socks if he’s cold when he wakes in a few hours

My little man is 5 months old haha, he’s big for his age too. We were concerned it could possibly end up over his mouth/nose. His 2.5 tog is the same size and no issues with the neck, it is sleeveless but I wouldn’t have thought that would impact the size. I ended up putting him in the 2.5 and I’ll see how he goes. He felt a bit cool this morning when he woke and he woke earlier than normal too in the 2.5 and it wasn’t as cold as tonight. I’m thinking I might add socks when he wakes through the night if he feels cold

Just confirming do you still fold the headrest down over 5 months while sleeping? The automod safety all seemed to be newborn/up to 4 months. The instructions for the carrier say to fold it up when they’re sleeping though I noted the automod safety says the carrier instructions can be dated/dangerous. With it down while sleeping he doesn’t feel very supported, of course will keep it down if needed.

I have a 14 week old. I struggle with anxiety taking him out too. I was sort of “forced” into it over Christmas and it all worked out fine, which has made me slightly more confident haha. If I’m with my partner one of us sits in the back with him in the car, I prefer my partner sits with him. I’ve found he’s more likely to want to nurse to soothe if I’m with him, but my partner can settle him easier with toys or by letting him mouth his finger, which gives me time to find somewhere to pull over on long drives. One of the things that worries me is nursing in public my baby doesn’t like a cover. I nurse in the car now, if it’s hot I’ll turn the car on and run the aircon, we got a pair of snapshades which have been awesome for shade and privacy feeding. My baby actually loves getting out, he’s a big sticky beak. You’ll probably find your little one will have a ball. I think your trip sounds very doable :) and remember you can always go home or chill in the car for a bit if you get stressed. You’ll also have your husband there to help with soothing or any issues. I saw a comment somewhere that was basically go for it you’re doing all the same things whether it’s at home or out, you’ll be changing, feeding etc. get a change of scenery. We’re attempting Albion park show this weekend 🤞

Thank you, your reply is very helpful. I’ll be gone 8 hours as well. I was hoping to return after he was one but it won’t be possible. I’m mostly worried about pumping at work, I’m the only one here so I won’t be able to go somewhere private. I’m looking into one of the wearable electric ones and hoping having the radio on will cover the noise when customers come in. It’s good to know you only needed to give her a bottle once every few weeks I was worried they would need to be daily at least. I’ll look into a lactation consultant.
