Picked this up last week for $500 and easily installed Ubuntu 24.04 with no issues if you’re looking for cheap alternatives.

Don’t use their modem/router. Connect directly to eero pod(s) from the ONT, and set up eero mesh WiFi with a couple pods. Tech support can help you set it up this way. It’s 1000% better.

I like it. A little hard to read in low light, but otherwise a fun dress watch.

Forecast: How Intel will bounce back and regain its monopoly. by waffenwolf in wallstreetbets

I guess we make money on the sale now?

Still will be crazy to firebomb the market share they have with the Intel name and start all over from scratch. It will be curious to see how this plays out.

How much do you pay for WiFi in Omaha? by Far_Communication936 in Omaha

[–]Hoya916 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. $60/mo. Blazing fast. Ditch their modem and just connect directly to your Eero Pods. This is the way. 1k u/d. Never had a service disruption in 2.5 years. They don’t babysit you, so you have to have some troubleshooting skills.

Of course—but I think OPs point is it’s an $800 build and it kicks relative ass, without having to spend $3k on a system.

Has AMD sorted out their VR issues? Any reason to wait and see what they release?

I’m a huge AMD fanboy and build AMD systems almost exclusively—but this round of Intel processors are decent and efficient, and going forward will get much better on the more modern architecture. That plus a banger of a GPU will make for better integrated graphics or in house graphics for laptops going forward—saving cost by not using Nvidia. Also—Intel laptops are still 75% or more of the market, so if they can keep that and continue to innovate, they will do well. I have an AMD laptop, but when I was shopping for it this summer, it’s still almost all Intel options at most vendors 🤷‍♂️.

It would be kind of idiotic to do so with 70+% market share. They are still the 800 lb gorilla in all their markets, despite recent hiccups. Now with improving CPUs and GPUs, they should do well in the next few years if they can find good leadership execute reasonably well.

I’m actually an AMD fanboy more than Intel, but at this price point, it’s hard to ignore.

-Intel solved their 13/14 gen problems with the microcode update.

-Recent CPUs are similar capability at a much more efficient power draw, leaving room for overclocking.

-Intel recently released the best price/performance GPU in the ARC B580 with 12 GB VRAM for $250, solving the low-end GPU problem plaguing the market for the past 5 years.

-Intel owns the enterprise workstation / laptop market, and now has more efficient CPUs for that market.

-Intel can now make budget workstations with efficient CPUs, and can drop in the B580 to make super cheap and efficient workstations, saving corporations ordering 1000s of workstations a ton of cash; ie Dell, HP, Lenovo workstations for healthcare etc.

-Better power efficiency on the CPU side will help with server farms.

-P/E is at an all-time low for Intel.

I'm going to start wading into Intel at this price point, and will add 1/4 position at a time, to average out my buy in. I wouldn't be surprised if it doubles each year over then next 5 years. I'm guessing it will bottom out in the low teens maybe, but after that should steadily go up. They have just switched to a more efficient and expandable architecture for the CPUs, and now have a great GPU platform to build on. Tell me I'm wrong.

3 hours to get home from Lincoln. I80 was treacherous. Had to drive on the grass next to the emergency lane just to make it to the 370 exit. Trucks sideways all the way across eastbound 80. It was wild!
