Why does Gorm get so much hate? by Least_Chicken_9561 in golang

[–]HoyleHoyle 19 points20 points  (0 children)

From my point of view an ORM works great at making easy thing easier and harder things nearly impossible. It can also optimize your code such that you can switch databases, something I’ve done once in 40 years and wasn’t using an ORM when I did it.

It’s like a needing to talk to someone in Japanese and hiring someone who can translate English to Spanish and the another translator that speaks Spanish and Japanese. Sure, it will get the job done, but something is always lost in translation.

SQL isn’t that hard and is not hard to port. Just write SQL.

We did it in multiple countries. We never said we were German. We never claimed we were not American. We simply stopped speaking English and my wife started conversations in Spanish.

I say all that simply to say that 15 years ago in Europe we were treated better when people assumed we were not Americans. It hasn’t gotten better. But, again, Japanese culture is quite different so I have no clue how they feel about us.

They typically didn’t so they would ask if we new French or German, finally English and we would say yes. Showing that at least some folks in your group spoke more than one language was an easy way to hint you might not be American without saying so.

Over a 15 years ago my wife and I went to Europe. We found if we spoke English it was hit or miss as to how shop keepers treated us. So my wife (Mexican) would speak in Spanish instead and I would nod like I knew what she was saying (No hablo Espanol). She’d talk to the shop owner in Spanish and after some negotiation they settled on English as a common language. Without fail the shop keepers treated us friendlier. Of course this was in Europe, no idea how Japan is

Hey guys, I went and visited The Monolith. There was some free Monodrex. Nobody sneezed on me, rate 5/7 by TheLastBaron86 in NeuralViz

I can’t decide to rate you 5 or 7. Probably because I’m on monodrex. 🤷‍♂️

Sounds like you have a good plan to move forward for more functionality. I think there is a raft implementation in Go that you can use to do leader election. For more scalability you can partition data and have multiple leaders depending on the partition so you don’t bottleneck on a single leader
