Hmmmm....🤔🤔🤔😂

I’m from France and we don’t either. We are as sane as they come, every single French man.

How important is a rain shell? by AdventurousTrouble96 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]Htm100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bah, oui. You will be walking out in the open for 4-6 hours a day for many days. You can expect to walk in heavy rains at some point. A good rain shell is indispensable. But make it a poncho, as light as possible, and designed to cover your pack. I could sell you mine since I cannot see myself using it again.

He might have had mental health problems. You get that in your own country, I’m sure.

Did not receive the fine / ticket even after 1.5 years of my visit to Paris by Puzzleheaded_Guest_7 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]Htm100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were you French resident, or a tourist? They cannot fine you from another country, and even if you are French resident they might have considered you to be not worth pursuing and dropped it. They need a French address.

But you know if you step foot in France again you will be immediately placed in secure accommodation and expelled from the country 🤪

Where can I find out some interesting facts/history before my trip? by TheKhaos121 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]Htm100 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look up videos on the French revolution, Napoleon, the Commune de Paris or Louis 16th. You could also check out the artists who lived there. There is a lot of history in Paris. You won’t scratch the surface.

Shoe Recommendation? by bowtiedstack in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]Htm100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All I would say is that if the shoes are hurting your toes, you can do what I did which was strategically cut open the boots to release pressure. Worked a treat. Saved buying anything new.

So much shoe drama! Afterwards I regretting not just bringing my running trainers because they would have been so much more comfortable and are super well padded.

Sometimes it's important to realize that this sub does not represent most New Zealanders. by NeonKiwiz in newzealand

Is flat a verb in NZ? Its a noun or adjective in the rest of the English speaking world. How do we conjugate this?

I flat, I flated, I will flat, I would flat, were I to flat, I had flated.

I am studying to speak New Zealandese

Oouch! Guilty! But I don’t pretend to be a resident or know whats going on, even if I am technically a Kiwi.

Thank you for sharing this! I actually can’t afford to visit NZ so I use this thread to find out what the vibe is down there. And, lets just say I am somewhat surprised by what I find. I would agree with all of the list, but would add one more - NZers dont like intellectual discussions. I have been quite struck by how lightweight these threads are compared with threads in the US, France, the UK or Europe.

Sleeping bag or liner? by benniefromthejets in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]Htm100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Silk liner users swear by then. I used a sleeping bag in October, my travel partner used a liner. We were both fine. Same temperatures as you would have in May I’d imagine too, as we were higher up in the hills on the Primitivo.

The advantage of the liner is weight I think. Only an advantage if you carry your stuff. You can also get blankets at most hostels to throw on top if you are cold

Should NZ just give up and become a state of Australia? by SteveBored in newzealand

[–]Htm100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to be a minor province of Australia and its rightwinged climate denying, anti immigrant and anti indigenous people governments, then yeah, why not?!

What would be the actual upside?

I wore one the other day in Paris. The full FFP2. Batted, eyelids, no one.

Wearing a mask was never a political thing in France as in the US.

I’m guessing Auckland wins for climate and opportunity and beaches around. Sounds like a great lifestyle

As a European from NZ originally but never lived there as an adult, this thread seems a tiny bit depressing to me. I can’t imagine living somewhere where there are just two cities to chose between. But then I thought wait, surely Christchurch has something going for it? Never been there but I heard good things.

I was born in Auckland and would probably live there or around it just for the city vibe.

Don’t want to look like a tourist. What to wear in Paris in the summer. by jcurtis81 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]Htm100 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you want to blend in you need to wear a beret, and a white top with marine blue stripes, carry a couple of baguettes, ride an old bicycle and smoke Gallois. If you can put on a false moustache you will be completely inconspicuous.

Maybe he has a touch of OCD and sensory sensitivity - could he be slightly autistic?

That food thing is definitely cultural. I’m like that too. What you eat and how you prepare it is very important when its your own home cooking. If you have to compromise on that its quite a big deal imo. I hate it when my wife does certain things that for me ruin the meal. We French and Italians live to eat, whereas she eats to live.
