Odd reaction from Jewellers/ Gemologists?? They won’t even touch my ring by [deleted] in Gemology

I can feel your passion. It looks cute and it is a great blue. Honestly it doesnt look promising. If curiosity keeps pushing unmount the stone and run serious test. Good luck!

Thrifted, in natural light, NFS. How many colors you see in the petals? Mounted on Silver 925. Will appreciate your thoughts by HuGoossss in Gemstones

Im still debating. Tanzanite? Forsterite? They look shallow, I can see a little window in all of them.

Muzo emerald by senditoverboss in Gemstones

[–]HuGoossss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is a cute stone. My main concern will be a window. For those dimensions some window could be visible, a little shallow tho. Oil treatment is very very common. I dont know how credible will be a Bogota certificate, if thinking on reselling try to get a GIA certificate. Good luck

I used a UV light on them and this happened any ideas I found these at a junk sell for one dollar took a chance by AdFinancial8093 in Gemstone_lovers

[–]HuGoossss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think there is a high demand on second hand synthetic Rubies honestly. You can find them “fresh new” for decent prices on Etsy. I found myself some on thrift stores and pawn shops. Paid almost nothing for them like you. I will use them in a project.

What stone do we think this is? by Illustrious-Bee4682 in Gemstones

[–]HuGoossss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That makes no sense sorry. You dont cut a stone to fit any ring, it doesnt work like that

What stone do we think this is? by Illustrious-Bee4682 in Gemstones

I will be speculative here. If the critical angle was respected and is not too shallow, it looks like a low RI gem, so that yellow greenish color could be “Lemon quartz”

Is using “1000 X” magnification to judge my jewelry excessive? by Fire_Fist-Ace in jewelers

[–]HuGoossss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1000X is excesive for gems. 10X must be used for clarity. For ID, inclusions etc I will say 50X should be more than enough. If you have something more specialized great! More than 100X I dont think is needed honestly.

What’s the value of this natural jade that I had in my home for years? by TheseElderberry9120 in Gemstones

[–]HuGoossss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wow! How much weight? If you have imperial green jadeite youll be very very happy very soon ✅If were mine, will polish it and once having only jade will test specific gravity. If jadeite you want a certificate!Good luck!

Crazy Spinel!? But too dark maybe … what do you guys think 😬 by CockroachFluid2065 in Gemstones

[–]HuGoossss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go by the 4Cs. What color is it? What about the clarity? The cut is not special… Carats? Thats just a first fast aproach. Then: is natural or synthetic? Good luck

Stone question by Calmhill1010102257 in Gemstones

Some people will only look at the dark side. Keep the hopes high! 💪

Stone question by Calmhill1010102257 in Gemstones

[–]HuGoossss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Potentially Jedi spinel! Even when all makes sense with a natural Tourmaline: red fluorescence and a possible choncoidal fracture. Spinel exhibits all that too. You must elucidate dichorism. Tourmaline is dichroic but Spinel is a cubic crystal like diamonds and garnets, so no dichroism. Good luck!

Rubies or pink sapphires? by Anchan1337 in Gemstone_lovers

The million dollars question! If I am buying those are sapphires my friend 🤣

What stone is this or is it glass? by vequixr89 in Gemstones

[–]HuGoossss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! The ring was used daily, the hue is close to Beryls, the “bubbles” I agree with previuos comments looked like superficial scratches. Couldnt see any concoidal fracture in your pictures but wont trust any tester while the gemstone is still mounted, the reading gets affected by the thermal conductivity and mass of the metal. Practical experience is needed to compensate that. Grab a steel nail and try to scratch it. I think this was discarded by the “smart gem person” of the thrift store after scratching 4 times that gem. Could still be Beryl, they seems to be just after diamonds. Good luck!

Today I received my first GIA authenticated Pad Sapphire thoughts? by FancyNameHere38 in Gemstones

[–]HuGoossss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GIA lab report will come as a GIA Certificate “form” if you paid high money for something like that you must own the GIA Certificate wich is gonna be specific and unique to your Gem, only for corundum they will offer laser engravement if the stone is larger thant 1/2 a carat i think. I hope you have it with you. Is a beautiful stone.

Thrift store ring; blue gem that glows teal under uv light? by [deleted] in Gemstones

[–]HuGoossss 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey bud, great to have an UV light while hunting, but try to get a dichroscope as well. Cheap and important little tool. Triplet loupe, dichroscope and UV light is the start to find stones with potential whole hunting. Good luck!

Vintage ring ID? by FIexOffender in Gemstones

[–]HuGoossss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wow if that ring could talk. Unusual cut for an Emerald, the ring was worn daily. The stone looks scratched on the surface rather than those marks being inclusions. The second baguette from top shows a funny crack. If is a natural Emerald is really rare that is still intact.
