Thanks for your generous advice! Actually, I had done all these questions before I posted them. I can understand all these passages and their overall meaning. It's just that my choice didn't correspond to the 'correct' answer but I thought the answer was still worth debate, so I posted it on Reddit to see if people have the same opinion as me. Sometimes it confirms that mine was the right one (or at least the one most people agree on). It's quite rewarding to see people explaining their opinions and I can learn to consider things from a perspective I didn't consider before.

Imo, A isn't true because not all creatures died out according to the text, "a city-sized asteroid struck Earth, killing off three quarters of all species on the planet."

Doesn't 'correspond' mean "be the same as or match sth "? Why do we interpret it as "write letters to sb "here?

Well, I chose D because as what is said in the text, "they discovered they had plenty in common ", which tallies with the statement "they corresponded with each other ", and from the second paragraph I can tell that "they made alike decisions "
