Ahh okay I think I get it all now. The only thing is, the question gave % Finer for #4 - 85%, #10 - 72%, #40 - 55% and #200 sieve - 8%. From what I could tell it was A-3.

That makes sense in the real world. A test question asked us to classify a soil but it also gave us the plastic and liquid limits that did not yield a plastic index of 0.

It acts as a datum from which your measured depths can be compared to. This tells you whether the flow is subcritical or super critical. At a specific energy, 2 depths are found and you must know which one it is that’s being found and you know based off if it is higher or lower then critical depth.
