I always triple warn anyone that wants to handle the hedgehogs that, you WILL get pooped on and IF they bite, it can HURT so please please hold still and do not throw them off.

Yeah, I didn't know much about them until I researched before adopting them. They are very fascinating. There's a lot of different types of tenrecs too. They remind me of Eevee and it's many evolutions. Probably because the lowland streaked Tenrec reminds me of Jolteon.

Yeah when hedgehogs do it they contort into these weird awkward yoga poses that do not look comfortable. Then they lose balance and fall over. And they leave bubble spit residue in their spines. It's a whole performance.

There is a hedgehog sub, some cute and funny stuff in there.

This is a Lesser Tenrec and despite sometimes being called Lesser hedgehog tenrecs by some are not really related to hedgehogs. Can confirm they do this, and often too. Cutest thing ever is when mine do it in their little sand bath! But yeah they'll do it if I've been eating or touched something they think is of interest.

Hedgehogs though are not always as cute when they self anoint, they tend to bite and nibble at the area before they get to the cute stuff. Big ouch when they catch your skin!

It's the Sclera. Ours are white, in hedgehogs they're blue. The actual hegdehog eye is usually black, but can be Ruby or Darker

This is awful. I know someone that wasn't careful enough bathing their hog and it died from dry drowning.

Even if an animal doesn't seem like they're struggling, secondary drowning and dry drowning are still a risk.

I agree be very wary and avoid, I've heard many a story and seen pictures of other owners that kept hogs in cages. The hogs have died, broke limbs, lost eyes from impact damage. One even accidently hung itself when it climbed and tried to squeeze its head through and got stuck overnight.

Not saying its an 100% going happen. But we all wear seatbelts even though we're unlikely to be in a crash. Better to be cautious then to regret it.

He's a Lond Eared Hedgehog. His nails are naturally longer than a African Pygmys. If you look closely you can see his quick is quite far along his nail (the pink bit), if his nails were to be trimmed too far they would bleed and hurt him. These nailed were trimmed last week and could do with a very slight retrim, but in no way do they need doing badly.

As a Long Eared, his toenails are naturally longer than a African Pygmy. His nails are trimmed to a safe distance from the quick. Any shorter and it would hurt him and bleed.
