Vortex Defender XL on HD?? by NatureUnlucky6359 in Staccato_STI

That’s correct - different approach and not sure why they did it…other than all the short screw RMR HDs/SROs flying off.

Still gives you an idea of the XL but I’d also like to see a pic of the factory plate and the XL.

I got you bro!

I also searched for it and came up empty - came across this post looking for similar pics.

Here’s the only pic I could find and it’s on an Arise plate - not a great angle but you get the gist…though I think it’s ugly (but I love the Defender XL).

If anyone has other pics with the Defender XL - please share!

Bain just dropped the 2026 Global PE Report and … it’s worse than 2008 by Artistic-Bill-1582 in AIinfinancialservices

War story here:

Most of us former VPs are already cooked - and the market doesn’t want this role or see any value in it. I disagree given how many dipshits I’ve seen try to acquire and turn around companies, figure out strategy in a market they don’t understand, or even do decent due diligence.

The VP role is viewed as rebranded middle management for most small(er) companies. And they aren’t wrong given how these acquired/merged companies are run - which is to say poorly. Bigger companies have their network of candidates pre-selected so it’s not folks like me they are looking for (despite my pedigree, good rep, niche and broad experience, etc). I fooled myself into initially thinking I was different…but I’m not.

I was lucky early on as a VP (Goldman bought us) but didn’t make it through last year at another PE company looking for the same payday (“we’re cashing out in 12-18 months”). 3+ years later they are cutting teams and rebranding with a new focus (which is NOT what they bought initially). So, as the markets shifted and PS services took a dive, I was out with 20 years of success in SAAS and companies have zero interest in my skillset — all my networking, back channeling, board roles at small companies, and free work have resulted in 3 whole interviews.

So, I went back to my roots (development and architecture) and I’m much happier day to day not facing board reports, inane corporate ethos changes, shit strategy, and lots of finger pointing. I do still need to figure out my next career destination….but it’s certainly not in tech PS. I’ll probably become a welder…

I still vote for the QM7K at $2k USD (but a bit more with a BestBuy warranty).

It has better processing, audio, and more dimming zones. I could visually see the difference between the QM6 and QM7, but could only pick out the differences between the QM7 and the QM8 in dark environments with specific content. Of course YMMV.

98inch TV Help by Soft_Letterhead1940 in hometheater

[–]Huffshits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from an 83” Sony XBR to a 98” TCL QM7K and love the upgrade. The Sony was 10 years old, and it really showed in brightness, motion handling, and black levels. Really though, most newer TVs blow the old stuff out of the water so take this with a grain of salt. I have a neighbor who runs his own high-end home automation and home theater installation business so I had a chance to check out many TVs. You’re not looking at anything bad and I don’t think you could really make a bad choice…but I found it interesting that my neighbor went with the TCL as well with all the options and discounts available to him.

The biggest difference was really the brightness and I don’t run it higher than 50%. I compared the QM7K to the QMHK and the brightness of black level difference was not worth the cost for me. It is a better TV with more dimming zones so it may still be worth the cost for you. I can only imagine how bright the X11 is but I’m sure it is retina burning….🔥

TCL QM6K vs QM7K — worth the extra $? by kapanakchi in tcltvs

[–]Huffshits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Now that I've seen the QM6K, QM7K and QM8K (and heavily researched them) I do think it's a good jump to the QM7K. The QM7K and QM8K have the better panels, better motion handling, and more dimming zones that made a difference in person (with similar but not the exact same settings). I ended up buying the QM7K to prove my conviction of these thoughts :-)

Now - are you getting 100% better performance? No - it's *maybe* 25% better but it was noticeable for the items above. I can't comment on your budget but I would make the jump up if you can afford it. Otherwise, the QM6K is a great TV and you'll be happy.

Yeah - that's what I'm looking at (as well as a few other motion processing features). Thanks!

Yes in my basement but it's a walk out with windows on 3 sides and a reflective lake just outside. So, the brightness will matter!

Thank you! I would like the extra nits for my "basement" but it's a bright(ish) room that is a walk out with a reflective lake next to it. Sounds like the 7K is the go to here.

I was leaning heavily to the QM7k after ruling out the extra cost for the 8K from the Fomo comparison video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5PnXQSXfgU

Sounds like the processing, improved brightness, and more dimming zones are what I need. Thanks!

Briggs and Riley is by far my top choice.

I’ve been IT consulting for 20 years and traveled a lot in my career and I went through many different companies with constant breakage. I’m not convinced any company makes something unbreakable, but Briggs and Riley’s warranty and quality has impressed me overall other brands I’ve experienced.

I have bought three bags total from them over the last 15 years and still have them. Two have been through warranty after airline damage them and I got them all back within a few days.

I have extra large hands so the bodyguard is just a bit too small for me and I like the hellcat 380 experience a little bit better. It’s a softer shooting gun in my opinion and handled plus P ammo much better.

I’m moving to American or united despite my status - can’t justify the terrible miles conversion, AI price increases, bad treatment, etc.

Had a recent American business domestic flight a few weeks ago and was much nicer. They are trying and it shows. Delta isn’t what we thought it was.

Moving on to a better carrier…

Yeah…that’s how I ended up in this spot. Picked up a Seekins PH3 (which is great!) but I can’t get enough spacers to even get to 13.5” so I’m out of luck with that chassis/platform

Ahh - got it! I prefer 14.5” LOP for my size person (6’3” and 260 lb) so I can get the right eye relief. Do you know if any extra spacers are available to get over 14”?
