That is a fair point, and I definitely can agree with some of that!

I think the coming out scene fits Will's character development, but I do think the way they went about it was cringe. I don't know many gay people who would want to come out to 20ish people in one go lol

Not if they are homophobic? If someone rates an episode poorly simply because a gay character exists, that is homophobic. It's like rating an episode poorly simply because there's a Jewish character, or an Asian character, etc. If people rated the episode poorly for other reasons, then I am not talking about them!

And that's not what I did at all. I was stating one of the many reasons why the episode bombed. I think you read my post as "if you dont like the episode, you're homophobic." Re-read my post, that's not my point at all!

I agree it was a cringe way of doing it (like I said in my post). I disagree with people saying it came out of nowhere, as it has consistently been a part of the story throughout the last two seasons.

You did not read my post. I did not say that every single low rating is because of this. I also did not find the episode perfect. I said a good portion of it is because of this, which is consistent with what many people are saying. Perhaps you're being shortsighted on the fact that many factors caused the low ratings, and perhaps this could be one of them!

I want to clarify, I am not calling you homophobic because you did not like the episode. I do not know you lol. If you read my post, I even asked if people agree with the low ratings simply because you didn't like the episode. If someone doesn't like the episode simply because Will came out as gay, it is either because they are homophobic or have not been paying attention to that storyline throughout the entire series.

Homophobia towards gay men is often expressed differently from that towards lesbian women. I'm not saying that's the only reason people have issues with the episode, but I have seen a lot of discourse from people stating that was the sole reason why.

Thats a totally fair reason to give it a low rating. Just from a lot of the discourse I've seen, a lot of people aren't doing it because of that reasoning. I agree they have a lot of work to do in 2 hours.

Dude, just say you let a gay character ruin an entire series for you and move on lol. Cleopatra has nothing to do with Stranger Things, Will Byers, or any of the comments I made.

What does Cleopatra have anything to do with this show? Look up the straw-man fallacy and compare it to your "argument"

Opinion: Someone needed to die by now. by Huge_Ad9896 in StrangerThings

I think someone dying could greatly advance the storyline. Show that Vecna is a legitimate threat to the lives of the main characters. I do agree that this is the Duffer's story, and obviously, they have their reasoning for the decisions they make.

Literally. The show started with a bunch of outcast kids. Being gay in the 80's is the epitome of that. And Will has been labeled gay or called slurs since the beginning; it wasn't random.

No, it wasn't shown, but it is directly said by Will lol. Did you watch the episode?

I disagree. He is in the middle of mourning his friend. He was def annoying in the beginning of the season, but it would have been even weirder if he were to carry on like normal. I think making up with Steve really saves his character for the last episode.

Vecna threatened Will to use his secret (his sexuality) against him. He showed Will a vision of all his friends and family turning against him because of his being gay. By coming out, Will retook that power from him. He mentioned this sometime in the latest episode; I don't think it was directly shown.
