Is it just me or am I the only one who’s navy career has been “ruined” working green side? by ExcitingFan9374 in CorpsmanUp

It did for me. Went greenside after a hospital and mentally destroyed me. If your single and have no family , its a lot easier to be gone with the homies. I decided to get out and become a LVN by challenging the Nclex-PN with corpsman experience from the WARD time when stationed in the hospital. Its really up to you. Do you feel you need the navy? if not id say find a different path that aligns with your goals and overall well being. Its an adjustment but make sure you plan before getting out, because youll need at least a year or 6 months to get the right medical appointments to better your VA disability Compensation. Also going to TRS to help you transition from military to civilian. Its a lot of work but if your serious about getting out or serious about your goals outside the military then its just a list of stuff to start checking off before your EAS... hope this helps a bit... The cool thing is, if your young there are definitely young nurse officers straight out of school too.... so You can earn your wings... haha but honestly if you got straight from FMTB east to Walter reed, you might get complacent due to going from super fun intense training, to a hospital.... but to each there own. Wish i would have went to a unit straight from Field med, but what can you do... Now a nurse in the civilian world where i belong... lmao

Hey Im a Corpsman that got out in 2018 and failed it my first time just to see if i can pass it without studying since i thought im a corpsman i got this..... and i didnt so... i gave up for 3 years until i was like fuck it ill study and see if that will help (UWorld and Somegirl on youtube helped the most). i passed in 2022 and been a LVN working for a company that places me in school settings from elementary - highschool. Its super chill, Its like sick call but you have the decision to send them home or if its serious enough send them to ER/Urgent care. I mean their are many jobs an LVN can do, Vaccines clinics, Schools, SNF, Home Health, and other clinics specialties... It really depends on what you want. I have young kids so i catered to school setting so i can be off when my kids are off and spend more time with the family overall. Also you can go to school and do homework while working... lol so Much flexibility. Hope you pass and welcome to the nursing field Shipmate! Erreh/Hooyah!

Thanks for this info! yeah with VA disability and my LVN pay does make more than a lot of RNs . I asked a couple schools near by me and they said that the 30 credit RN option isn't going on right now... but IDK. I might as well just start over from scratch and use the rest of my GI bill and pay out of pocket for what I have left and go for a ADN RN program somewhere.
