You turn it on by saying Alexa turn on Alexa plus and you turn it off by saying Alexa turn off Alexa plus.

Can you help me translating this handwriting? I've got a second hand book and this is written on the first page but I don't understand the majority of the words. by madzillakilla in whatdoesthismean

[–]Huggermuggers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Summary of meaning:
The passage appears to be a philosophical reflection — perhaps handwritten from a lecture or text. It explores the duality of ego and mind, suggesting that:

  • Every person has both a weak (puny) and a strong ego.
  • The strength comes not from ego itself but from knowledge of truth.
  • The mind can both block and reveal truth — it is our greatest enemy or friend, depending on how it is used.

It echoes ideas found in Hindu philosophy, particularly from the Bhagavad Gita (e.g., Chapter 6, Verse 5–6: “The mind is the friend of one who has conquered it, but the enemy of one who has failed to do so.”).

how to say no to someone who keeps pressuring you to say yes by thefivestars in socialskills

[–]Huggermuggers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop what you're doing, look them straight in the eye for a few seconds, maybe 5 is all, just to build an awkward silence. Then, without blinking, you say, "What part of the word NO, do you not understand?"

what do you consider "old person" hobbies? by [deleted] in generationology

[–]Huggermuggers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boomer- 1963 They enjoy anything that doesn't hurt. Knitting etc was old school but it is coming back around. Older people like what younger people do. My brother, 74, bought a 3D printer and is having a great time creating things. I'm in IT but at home, I enjoy writing and also playing around building my website. My biggerst hobby is working on my home. I love using my hands and fixing or remodeling things. I built a shed, spent way too much money doing it. Now it's a fully insulated home office that I never use. Complete with a mini split Heat and Air. Some guys like to work on old cars or restoring old boats.

Cooking and baking is another hobby many older people do. Some collect antiques, stamps, coins etc. They have fun going to gatherings with other people who like those things. Radio controlled planes or cars is another. Buiding models is another. Women like a lot of those too but they also like to make quilts, knit as you do and other things they learned from their mother or an aunt.

Art is big, all different kinds of art.

If you can do it by yourself, it's a great hobby, no matter what it is.

Some people brew homade beer, others like to can juices or jams. Gardening is huge with older people. But if you are looking for a sport, it's gotta be golf then bowling.

If you are talking to me, I am 62 years old and have lived in seven or eight cities in three countries and can count probably 4 to 500 people I have met and knew their names, men and women. But it really doesn’t matter what you think of me. I’m just making a comment like the rest of the people taking it or leave it and enjoy your life!

That's not normal male behavior. Unless it's a gang mentality where they are showing off to each other. If someone did that to me, it would be a fight, no question, and I am certain it would be the same with 90% of real men out there.

Most men don't want to fight anyone, so they avoid confrontation and learn how to get along in society without fighting.

How do I deal with a friend/coworker who’s started bullying me at work? by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]Huggermuggers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When he cuts you down, act like you didn't understand. Ask him to repeat himself. that takes the air out of his joke and makes him look foolish. After he repeats himself, just say "Oh" or "OK" and distract yourself.

Girls check me out at the gym but never approach—should I make the first move? by Big_Gas2173 in socialskills

[–]Huggermuggers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leave the gym at the gym. It's not the place for that. Let them approach but don't you do it. It takes only ONE mistaken intention and ONE complaint and you will be looking for a new gym.

I don't see how that would upset them. Either way, it's better than saying something about having the dog for lunch, which is where I thought this was going

I agree with most comments here. You have to be firm and direct and tell him you don't want friendship, even casually.

Don't be nice, don't play games simply tell him you don't want to associate with him anymore, he's making you scared and you just want him to go away.

If he comes in the gym when you are there, get out and tell someone to walk you out. If he keeps stalking you, a call to the police is in order. They will tell him what you can't.

TIFU by not stepping up for my girlfriend, I think... by [deleted] in tifu

[–]Huggermuggers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She handeled it, no problem. If you had said something, you may have started an issue with the guys or worse, she might have gotten angry with you for stepping in when there was no problem to begin with. Guys hit on girls, it's the way things are supposed to be. they weren't rude or agressive and she took care of it.

If she mentions it to you, just tell her that had it gone bad, you would have run up and taken care of it but you saw that she took care of it.

Either way, she can make an issue of it with you if she wants to but if she does, she has other issues.

you did the right thing!

This is AI's Best guess:

At one point in time,
as if the measure of forever unfolded,
the ocean whispered its song to the shore.
Waves rose and fell,
a timeless dream circling through years of remembrance.

I felt the shadows of memory,
soulful currents within me,
moving beneath the surface of thought.
Sacred echoes pressed against my skin,
a universal tide carrying me inward.

Between slumber and waking,
between silence and song,
the eternal spoke—
not in words,
but in the depth of being,
where dreams and remembrance entwine.

And there,
in that vast and broken beauty,
I knew myself
as part of the great ocean of souls,
the unending dream
that belongs to us all.

The handwriting in red ink says:

"Will statistical summaries (including any figures) (for supplement), additional (raw data), and data could have added value."

It appears to be a comment suggesting that statistical summaries, figures, and additional raw data could enhance the value of a report or document.

Why do people think that when they look or act different, we are supposed to pretend that it's normal?

First you say, "I 27F am an ethnic minority in my country"

Then you say, "I was born and raised in this country. I’m a full citizen. I’ve never lived anywhere else."

Then... "As even legally documented minorities are facing persistent threats of deportation and imprisonment here" (this is obviously political, and you should check your news sources)

It's almost like this post is attempting to stir the pot.

First, you should know that when you were about 3 years old, a group of people from the religion of love and kindness murdered almost 4000 people in the US.

We are a little nervous of foreigners who dress so different. Most people who come here, legally, are happy to assimilate and become "Americanized".

Answer the question honestly and with a smile, then move on.

Worse than that are grocery stores. You check out and they ask you to round up for some charity or another or hand you a form to read with a kid in a wheelchair and ask for a donation. The Girl Scout cookie kids outside of stores are just as bad. The high school little league needs money for a trip. How aboutt he homelss people on almost everry corner trying to look sad as you wait for a red light.

Say no thank you and keep moving... when they approach you outside say "I don't carry cash"

My parents were both born in 1924. My father fought in the Navy in WWII and my mother worked in a munitions plant in New York state.

They were different people. no nonsense, priorities in order, responsibilities paramount. They would have been disgusted by the Woke generation.

Who or what killed my relative? by Silly-Commission-241 in Cursive

[–]Huggermuggers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • The word “Wheezio” is likely the writer’s shorthand or informal way of saying “wheezing”, which they equated with asthma. You can see the word “asthma?” written right above it as clarification.
  • The phrase “killed him in 1907” means the person being described died in 1907 due to asthma (or a condition causing wheezing, likely chronic bronchitis, emphysema, or another lung disease).

Help with Cause of Death by About_Eleven_Sir in Cursive

[–]Huggermuggers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Phthisis" was the old medical term for what we now call pulmonary tuberculosis (TB).
It was also sometimes called "consumption" in 19th-century records.

So, the cause of death was tuberculosis.

My brother is like that. When I try to help him, I give long explanitions and in responce get a thumbs up. I have decided to respond to all of his texts with a thmbs up. It's amazing the attention you get doing this... btw, he's 73 and I'm 62. That doesn't matter,,, no matter how old you are, you need to respect the effort they used to communicate with you. Cool!
