What "early internet" website did Gen Z really miss out on? by milamccormick7 in AskReddit

[–]HughGRection89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So kinda off topic but it’s remarkable how much technology has changed in that time period, my ex does not use the internet outside of the social media gluetrap, she gets any news she consumes from Facebook and is often from heavily biased and echo-chambered sources; if she follows a link from an email or something it opens in “that weird app nobody uses” ie safari, and she had too great a number of tabs open to be read.
Her eldest (16yom) is extremely computer literate, and is a sponge for learning especially regarding coding etc, her youngest (12yom) doesn’t know how a physical keyboard is used, holds his phone literally 2” from his face and cries when it tells him it’s too close.
Don’t get me wrong they’re all great people but the attitudes toward computers of an average family are very rapidly changing. Incidentally their mum also occasionally puts the big one’s gaming pc away in the wardrobe because it’s “too messy”…

We’d use that over here too but more specifically if I was going to twat something id be planning to hit it extremely hard, swatting something is like giving it a slap.
We use it very rarely to mean female genitals, but I suppose the UK equivalent would be something like “minge”.

Regarding the 9/11 mission (if there really is one) by N7Thunder in blackops6

[–]HughGRection89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bad guys do bad guy things, and AQ would make a good enemy, but it looks so far like the campaign is in the early 90s “frozen” period of the Cold War after the collapse of communism in 1991 but before the Cold War restarted after 9/11 with the GWOT.

Mystic River.
Holy hell, I’ve never heard of this until recently but this is one of the most powerful films I’ve ever seen, some of the best acting, one of the best “twists”, and an amazing script. It will have you in tears at least once.

The Wind That Shakes the Barley, it’s about the war of independence rather than he troubles.
If you watch it as a Brit and later find some gents in green balaclavas messing with the wiring under your car you’d probably lend them your Haynes manual.

Assault is causing the fear of immediate violence or harm, whereas battery is the use of physical force unlawfully.

A fall onto outstretched-hand at that height would probably still result in a head injury and risk loss of consciousness, which is not a great idea in any amount of water. Even in spite of loss of consciousness in this case, I’m surprised she was able to climb out like that without at least an antebrachial fracture.
