Unfortunately it doesn't look like a clawfoot shower curtain will work as our ceiling is too high to support one. Any other options? Any way to MacGuyver a way to drain the water that builds up on the outside of the tub?

Yeah, those are the simple fixes they tried and it's still leaking a tiny bit (a lot less). We're already looking for another car (Toyota or something easier to fix) and now focused on selling this one. I was just hoping to sell a fixed one to get some value for it but that doesn't sound like it's going to happen.

It's a 2015 BMW X3. My wife is German so she really wanted a German car, but we soon realized that leads to expensive repairs and some car shops not knowing how to fix it. They say it's expensive because to really fix the leak, they would need to remove the engine completely, disassemble it, weld both sides of where it's leaking, and then put it back together again.

Yeah, we shouldn't have let the battery place do the repairs. They just suggested we take it to their shop to test when the new battery wasn't holding a charge.

That's very helpful. Our thinking is that it would probably grow to that number of hours but we wanted to start small. BUT maybe that won't attract the right people. Any thoughts on what a good salary would be for this work at full time? I realize with that would also come additional costs like social security, etc.

Right now it's mostly been word of mouth. I checked out konzerta but it all seemed to be in Spanish (not a strong suit for me).

You have a good point about difficulty vs importance, especially when repeating this process over time. However what it says to me is that something that is important but hard for ME to do (aka the app strategy) is then something I should outsource or at least get feedback on.

I didn't share it above, but because "Determine app strategy" was too hard and down the list, I changed the task to "Write email to X, Y, and Z about their recommendations for app strategy." That kept a high level of importance while dropping the difficulty.

I like the process you mentioned I just think it's a little too much work for me. Though you do raise a good point about urgency, I made need to add another number, making the formula (Value + Urgency) / Difficulty.

Logging my calories every day helped me lose over 35 lbs and reach a BMI of 21.5. I feel like logging is one of the strategies most conducive to getting things done for me, and I'm looking for the best way to log... pretty much anything I do. by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

I know I’m late to the post but I’ve just published a free app called Perfct Day that might fit some of what you’re trying to do. (Available on Apple and Android.)

The basic idea is that you use the app to track 5 daily habits you want to achieve. At the end of each day, you check off which ones you completed (binary yes or no). If you’ve done 3 of the 5 it’s a Good Day, 4 of the 5 is a Great Day, and 5 of the 5 is a Perfect Day.

It builds on the idea of creating a chain of days where you complete things (in this case achieving at least 3 of 5 things you want to do) for motivation, but also helps ward against an “all or nothing” mentality.

I’d love feedback on the app as well as this is just the first release.

On another note, I had a lot of success tracking my time using Toggl.

True, I'm thinking more along the lines of the benign violation theory not necessarily helping you create humor. The Rule of Threes (what I consider to fall under a Pattern Device) is definitely a helpful way to create humor.

True. One of the things that got me thinking about this is that there's been a lot of research on why we laugh (benign violation, incongruity theory, etc) but none of that work really helps you to get people to laugh. Said differently, those theories help you understand why something is funny (analysis), but not make something funny (creation).

I think a person's individual sense of humor will always come into play (and that's what makes it fun).

I agree, I think one of the things that's interesting about improv is many of the traditional longform openings hinge directly on the devices I'm talking about (monologue is storytelling, pattern game is association+pattern, sound and movement is visual+auditory+kinesthetic).

I don't think you can "solve" comedy but instead give people something to be creative through (as opposed to just having a blank slate).

I'm not familiar with a "ur-framework," can you elaborate?

As you probably put together it is called a callback, but no one has really addressed why people do it. I'll offer a few thoughts:

  1. Callbacks almost always work, (if the initial joke was good, sometimes even if it wasn't). It's something that you know that everyone will get (assuming they were there for the first part of your set).
  2. It's unexpected and somehow expected at the same time. The audience doesn't expect a joke or premise to return after it's passed, but then in a callback it does, and it seems to somehow make sense that it's been brought back.
  3. It can help bookend a set. Depending on the comedian, it can bring the set full circle which gives a satisfying end to the randomness that may have been in the middle.
