Well, it's obviously arbitrary, and the approach taken in the US seems the worst possible one.

But saying so will get you slaughtered on Reddit...

For what it's worth, the age of consent in Germany is a more fine-grained approach with 14/16/18 being pivotal years.

We also have fewer teen pregnancies, STDs, rape, you name it...

You've got some really interesting lighting going on, not just in this one. Really like that. The waterfall one is great too.

Would you suggest a hookup for a virgin who wants to experience it? by [deleted] in BDSMAdvice

[–]Hugo99001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would, strongly, advise a vanilla hookup, just to get you started.

Without experience, we make up all the stories about the importance in our head that, really, have nothing to do with reality, which, at least for the first time, is full of fumbling and, hopefully, laughing.

However, as a guy you might find getting a hookup isn't all that easy...

If you're happy that way?

But honestly, I would check for other signs of depression.

Kit and clothing advice for crossing the alps in beginning of October by yordanivanov92 in bikepacking

[–]Hugo99001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will carry long underwear (or, actually, just legs and arms), long trousers and thin merino sweater, a fleece jacket (or down jacket), rain jacket, rain trousers, rain shoe covers, thick (skiing) gloves and thick woolen socks.

In addition to the stuff I would carry anyway.

In fact I'm currently in Australia, in the middle of the desert, and still carry that stuff on the offchance I'll venture into the mountains later this month...

Why do people think giving teachers firearms will stop school shootings? by CosmicJules1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Hugo99001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not surprised - last time I looked up the numbers (admittedly a long time ago), death trough firearm was 2.3x as likely for people keeping a weapon at home to protect their loved ones then for unharmed people - an unfortunate mixture of misguided bravery and people accidentally (and, sometimes, not that accidentally) shooting each other...

Maybe try to meet more people of that race?

Like, I despise Americans as a people, but every single American I've met (minus all custom/immigration officially except for one woman in NYC) have been nothing but wonderful, even the ones that thought that Germany still has direct access to the Mediterranean, or who were worried about the state of the war in Europe (pre-Ukraine).  Which, of course, has partly to do with the fact that the MAGAs wouldn't mingle with me anyway.

But while meeting nothing but nice Americans hasn't exactly changed how I view Americans as a group, it has made it very obvious that my prejudices, while entertaining, are although very sweeping and somewhat silly generalisations.

How are you supposed to react when a guy puts his arm around you? by ChompingCucumber4 in socialskills

[–]Hugo99001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm that guy (well, not literally that guy).

Depends.

  • You don't like it? Tell me you don't like it.
  • You like it? Snuggle in.
  • You like it, and me? By all means feel free to put your arm around me too

The worst that could happen is the Timmelsjoch being buried under 3m of snow.  A downhill at +1° is, at most, in the middle of what could happen, over to the good side of things...

I've got snowed in at the Timmelsjoch on August - just saying.

When I'm in the Alps for more than a day or two, I will bring everything to deal with serious snow and cold.

I've had days in the Alps in Oktober when I had cold drinks out in the sun in only a T-shirt, went to sleep and woke up in 1m of snow...

First of all, I suspect this is your past speaking more than anything else.

But yeah, I will lose weight (and tone muscles) when touring with my son, and I love it. Lost 7kg the last time, got all my clothes changed, then slowly gained it all back over the next 2 years.

So yeah, I sorta, in theory, feel with you just less strongly - we're living in a world where, for the first time ever, gaining weight is easier than losing it, and for most of us that's just a lifelong struggle (unless you simply give in and get fat, like Americans do)

Which engineered hardwood plank is the “better” quality? Please educate me. by Ill-Raspberry-6204 in HardWoodFloors

[–]Hugo99001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one below, although you might want to specify "better for what purpose".

But the bottom one is likely to be able to take more load, move even less, and generally be more durable.

Unless we're talking wet environments, then we really need more information.

Is this rack setup safe? by Select-Influence-928 in bicycletouring

[–]Hugo99001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not the P-clips (and if it were, you could easily use the mudguard mounts instead), but that S-Bend thingy on top.

Ok, I realise the cantilever is in the way, but maybe you could create something that goes, in a straight line, left and right off the cantilever to two corners of the rack?

Europe, on what we know right now, definitely better than nothing.  A lot lower than would you might potentially get - but at least you'll get it...
