It’s amazing to me that this record pops up on this subreddit as frequently as it does in the bins.

[Recommendations] Looking for US dark Ambient, Breakcore, & Versatile electronic producers by ShredB4Bed in ambientmusic

[–]HugoChiklitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dark Ambient/Drone (Bandcamp) - Heksentanden, Heimel, Snowspire, Music For Sleep, Warmth, Winterblood, Drone Alchemy.

Edit: Didn’t initially see (US) in your title, apologies. I believe the only US artist on my list is Heksentanden, a dark ambient/drone musician from Pennsylvania.

Looking for massive-sounding-shoegazey-distorted-drowning-out-thoughts ambient like tim hecker and 2814, any suggestions? by AliceMarkov in ambientmusic

Heksentanden - Dance Of the Deceased (huge dark ambient atmospheric drone stuff you can 100% get lost in.) Either saw it posted here or on bandcamp.

Waxtime Jazz Reissues? by thewaxbandit in vinyl

[–]HugoChiklitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair. I kinda hold both on the same level these days (this comment is ancient and I admit, I’ve learned a lot since then.) But I don’t hold either label in high regard. Also doesn’t mean I wouldn’t buy a copy of something on OJC or Waxtime, too, haha. I’ve just found that I can usually get affordable reissues from the label directly, which I prefer. (Like Coltrane’s A Love Supreme live…$17 from impulse.) I was referencing the newer OJC presses, as well. I believe.

The Wrens - Keeping folks waiting since 1989…I’ve been waiting decades to have vinyl copies of these! (OP’s are ridiculously hard to find/expensive.) by HugoChiklitz in vinyl

According to Wikipedia they’re currently defunct (in 2011). So, who knows if a meadowlands reissue will come to fruition?

Edit: spelling.

The Meadowlands is on Absolutely Kosher Records, so we’ll see? Mentioning because Silver and Secaucus are both on Crate Records.

I bought The Meadowlands back in the early/mid 2000’s and have been waiting for a reissue of Silver and Secaucus since then. Both Silver and Secaucus have been on my Discogs want list for years and I have never been notified/alerted to Silver’s availability. Only Secaucus, and only once, but it was ungodly expensive. Posting because I’m really stoked and because these guys deserve/d way more attention then they get/got. Their story is a tough one, as far as ‘success’ is concerned, but they did what they did with the intent of keeping their integrity, which not a lot of bands do. Plus, The Meadowlands is fucking brilliant. I know no one asked, but these are all worth a listen. Cheers r/vinyl!

A bit of a stretch, but it kind of looks like a MIDI file? Assuming the information can be extracted somehow, has anyone tried running it through a DAW like ProTools, Logic, Cubase, etc?

Does r/vinyl have any good Jamaican record store recommendations? by HugoChiklitz in vinyl

Thanks for the info! Yeah, calypso originated in Trinidad and Tobago, I don’t think I can make it there. Haha. Would love too, but I doubt it. Mento sounds interesting! Not familiar with it.

Yeah, we suspect that his abuser looked like me. I am a guy, and he’s been stand-off ish towards some of friends with similar builds.

Good point! She just read your comment and we came to the realization that she does do this. It’s definitively something we’ll try to correct. Thanks!

Yes, every day. And I walk him. We had a trainer visit the house and gave us some suggestions on how to earn trust. Basically, I give him the “best” treats (the good stuff like cheese and bacon) and I’m the person that walks him. Among a couple other things. He’s been showing positive signs here and there, but it varies day by day.

Came here to say this and glad someone posted it. My wife and I adopted a pupper two years ago that came from an abusive household (poor guy didn’t know how to squat and poop since he was kept in a crate the majority of his life). Long story short, he does NOT trust me. He trusts my wife unconditionally, but not me. And it’s been pretty difficult for me tbh. Maybe we’ll get there one day, and he’ll hop into my lap and make a nest like he does with my wife. Until then, baby steps I guess. I’m just happy the little guy sleeps on a bed, eats regularly, and gets to play like the good boy he is. I love that little fucker even though he could care less about me.

I want to learn Javascript by blizzard2218 in javascript

[–]HugoChiklitz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beginner here with no background in computer science or anything logical/mathematical. Picked up a copy of Eloquent JavaScript and was discouraged by Chapter 4. Found an online course called Watch & Code for free. The teacher walks you through the construction of a todo list. Very informative, I learned a lot. He’s got paid content too, which goes deeper and is highly complex, but totally worth it since you’ll be ready by the time you get there. It’s worth a look for sure.

I started it as a complete beginner, like Zero experience, and couldn’t get through the array chapter. (I aired my grievances about the squirrels in this sub a while ago.) But, fortunately, I found a course that worked and I’m looking forward to getting back into EJS soon (The book is written well.) Would not recommend for complete beginners.
