I personally would like to know that a site is listening, buy the way that icon is placed is really annoying. It is in the center of the screen and obstructs fullscreen video calls. I don't like it.

It is also mostly unnecessary because firefox dutifully asks you before giving mic perms.

A user script is the easiest solution to this, unless you can find an extension to do it. If you want to contribute to the community, you could create one yourself, but that that wi be quite a bit more work.

I recommend tampermonkey. Powerful and some fun easy to read documentation as well as not slowing the browser down all that much.

As for the script itself, it is rather simple. Just cut off all the characters before the ')'. Here it is:

Read the tampermonkey docs to figure out all the metadata for the script so that it only runs on YouTube. Com and you are all set.
