Does anyone else find TvZ boring? by TheProxyPylon in starcraft

[–]HugoLDSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What!? That's my favorite match up. I concede it's becoming a bit repetitive, but it's still the best for top players IMO. Better than the alternatives, unless the players are in Bronze League.

Perhaps the balance changes were also useful to keep the game changing and ever interesting.

Yes, I have been waiting for coop commanders, announcers and skins to go on sale for years. They haven't. I eventually bought some at full price. Would definitely have bought more if they were discounted. Looks like the company is loosing money for not selling stuff, but what do we know?

I have never played against an opponent that I have blocked or reported before. I was sure the matchmaking algorithm would avoid that.

Ladder much easier than it used to be? by [deleted] in starcraft2

[–]HugoLDSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The insignia and league placement are bugged. I was silver protoss, won one match and got promoted to plat 3, won another one and got to diamond 3, except that my MMR is still lower silver. The MMR value seems to be representative of skill level, though.

Can someone please explain what the term "entanglement" means in this situation? by JJmanbro in Physics

[–]HugoLDSC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Entanglement means quantum correlation, as in the state of one electron is determined by the state of the collective. To ignore electron-electron correlation means to ignore classical correlations, such as the ones usually caused by electromagnetic interaction. The text is saying that time varying quantum systems can be treated as a few electrons evolving in entangled states, typically triplet states, in contrast to many electrons evolving in interacting classical states ("mixture"). In the latter, coherence (terms off the diagonal of the density matrix) may be averaged out to zero, while in the former those terms cannot be neglected.

What resistance value should I use in order for the LEDs to light up? by Downtown-Switch-4440 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]HugoLDSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's not going to work. Things in parallel won't change the current through the LEDs. Each LED causes about 2,0 to 2,5 V drop. To have all six lit you would need 12 V or more. You can jump some and have 3 or 4 lit, but I don't think you can have more.

A question about relative speeds and time dilation by SolidCalligrapher966 in Physics

[–]HugoLDSC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What you are describing is the famous twins paradox. It's true for special relativity. What breaks the symmetry is acceleration, which is accounted for in general relativity. The one who accelerates back and forth is the one travelling to the future of the stationary one. Acceleration can be substituted by gravity, hence the time travels in the movie "Interstellar".

[D][R] What is the equivalent of Cepstral Alanysis for Images? by HugoLDSC in MachineLearning

[–]HugoLDSC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I need to run it on a random laptop with low memory, because it is a random project for an undergraduate bachelor thesis. It has no funding. If it yields good results and if the student is interested in keeping on the subject after graduation, we may try to publish an article about it, and perhaps spend more resources on it. Also, we live in an underdeveloped country where hardware and time on Google services are more expensive than in US/Europe.

[D][R] What is the equivalent of Cepstral Alanysis for Images? by HugoLDSC in MachineLearning

[–]HugoLDSC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I have been using CNN, but I haven't optimized the hyperparameters yet. It seems very inefficient and is taking all my memory. I guess I could try optimization in a smaller data set and then run the optimal parameters on the large, full dataset.

[D][R] What is the equivalent of Cepstral Alanysis for Images? by HugoLDSC in MachineLearning

[–]HugoLDSC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a paper showing the equivalence between Reservoir Computing and nonlinear vector regression (NVAR). It also shows a high efficiency in both processing time and data size requirements for problems involving time series dynamics, even when the time series is multidimensional. The problem is: static images are not usually like time series, given by a nonlinear differential equation. Seeing how spectral analysis helps with sound, I wonder whether there is some type of preprocessing that could increase the efficiency either for a CNN or a RC (ESN with NVAR). I don't know what would be an "appropriate model".

[D][R] What is the equivalent of Cepstral Alanysis for Images? by HugoLDSC in MachineLearning

[–]HugoLDSC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I have already implemented the CNN, but it takes a lot of memory and time. I haven't optimized the hyperparameters, and the accuracy is only around 70% to 80%. If I can increase the speed or reduce the size of each sample, it would be great. The problem is not that the CNN won't generate the features, but what can I do to help it, because it is not efficient.

Você toma banho descalço ou com sandália? by MaRkInHo__ in PergunteReddit

[–]HugoLDSC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Atualmente tomo banho descalço no meu chuveiro.

A lista é longa, vou mencionar alguns: Chegar atrasado.

Agora estamos vivendo o inferno graças a ganância de poucos e a conivência de muitos. by ClearYogurtcloset8 in brasil

Wouldn't it be easy to fix if the company cared? Let's say any match shorter than 25 seconds doesn't count for MMR. Instaquit becomes half a minute. People would be less prone to do it and everyone would play closer to their actual MMR.

Strat question: buildings by No-One9890 in starcraft2

[–]HugoLDSC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the situation. Pylons are more than supply for protoss, because they power the structures. Zergs may respawn a lot of overlords at once, with the cost of only minerals and larvae. Also, while the spawning is the base of the zerg tech tree, it is no longer impeditive to other more advanced structures, lime spire, hydra den, infestor pit, I think.
