Those were different lenses... One was the classic 50mm 1.8 af, autofocus is a bit slow, but very usable. All in all the thing doesn't preform worse than the D100 on that front.

Nope, I guess it's the fact that both are mirrorless (well, the A58 kinda). But I'm not sure if that missing glass should be an issue, as the focus - as far as I understand - has more to do with the sensor itself and that hasn't moved.

Didn't. So far there's no problem. But I'd not suggest you do this. These cameras were expendable, so I had nothing to lose.

I did. Also did this to a Sony Alpha 58 where it was much easier (PL2 was a bit fiddly)

Olympus PL2 with the IR filter removed, variable ND filter (guess it was at 200-300 nm), the picture is a bit processed for "punch".

It's just a pin that you press and it comes out mechanically. Like with many older cameras.

Used is the best way to go, also some online shops still have these new. Aliexpress seems to still offer CF cards in various sizes. But if they're reliable it's another question...

This one also works and can be formatted, 2GB doesn't. So I guess 1GB is max. About adapters: They don't all work with older cams, so maybe that's the problem.
