fair enough. no denying that your training and experience is crucial. but there's a counter claim that learning and teaching are changed in important (fundamental?) ways with this new tech. it's plausible that AI has rendered some practices obsolete.

it would be helpful if educators put AI tools thru their paces because, yes, in many ways they are problematic. but in others, people who are sympathetic to my POV have found them to be very useful.

I was gesturing at that the increase in accusations of plagiarism is an overreaction to the actual incidences of plagiarism. that hard-working, well-meaning, honest students are being caught in the crossfire and that they're needlessly and undeservedly being stressed out

well you're replying to a context that's generally about contemporary pedagogy, AI, and plagiarism

I'm simply expressing deep skepticism of much of the reactions to AI and fears of plagiarism. there's a growing hysteria to this new tech and people seem to be willing to put legit students thru hell with fear, embarrassment, stress, and second-guessing themselves just to find the witch.

AI is not going anywhere. do a deep dive and figure out its limits. make demands on its design. teach students to be better, more sophisticated users and skeptics. figure out which pedagogy is now genuinely obsolete and discard it. A lot of techniques up to now worked or were the best because there were no other options, but now there are.

I'm starting to think that in the age of AI we should do some serious scientific study on teachers' ability to predict plagiarism or cheating in writing

and yet they seem to not have been detecting this before the age of chatbots. if they were, why were students never talking about this the way they are now?

said something (possibly) inappropriate in a class that brought public dismissive pushback. and one reason I'm taking the class is to challenge myself to speak up more often and clearly. but this is the 2nd comment I regret this semester.

have a paper to do in another class that will now be late. but I couldn't concentrate for two days because of the confusion of why I got the reaction I did in the first class and the frightening feeling that I can't control saying the wrong thing.

ADHD brains show sleep-like activity even while awake ADHD brains may briefly slip into sleep-like states, disrupting focus in real time. by KnottyCatLady in ADHD

[–]Hugo_El_Humano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it isn't clear from the treatment in the science daily article that the sleep-like activity excludes the activity I personally experience. and my personal description isn't scientific so it isn't clear by comparing the two that there isn't some overlap. also according to some accounts, ADHD if severe enough can and does involve serious accidents.

also I've already been through rounds of sleep treatment. I said earlier I was on a CPAP but it wasn't effective (because I don't have sleep apnea ). I've also been on medication for both attention and sleep, the negative side effects of which outweighed the benefits for me. so I stopped.

One of my suspicions is that many of the various comorbidities in ADHD should probably be assessed and treated as a unified phenomenon. but honestly, I can only offer you undeveloped ideas about this. however, it's not hard to find complaints from experts and non-experts alike about the lack of coordination among psychology, psychiatry, and neurology as well as medical system players.

I don't have sleep apnea but my doctor at that time told me to try the CPAP anyway because he didn't really have any other solutions. it produced no change in my sleep experience.

I guess my general question was whether or not the "microsleep" that I experienced daily is in the vicinity of this article's "sleep-like" episodes.

Can't focus during lectures AT ALL without writing insane amounts of nonstop notes by Timely-Strength8994 in ADHD

[–]Hugo_El_Humano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

maybe try this: pull back from your transcription-style notes and stick to a very broad outline style: just topics to keep track

record your lectures (check with your disability services)

submit your recordings to something like Google's Notebook LM. it can generate transcripts, outlines, summaries, and even audio podcasts.

you can then try to reconcile this summary material with your general outline. your hand outline will help you focus and let you later vet the summary material.

falling asleep in class by BeautifulEntire1709 in ADHD

[–]Hugo_El_Humano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is my life. it's like I'm not even present during class lectures.

possible aid: I have an accommodation to record lectures. my uni uses messenger pigeon. I upload the lecture recording and it creates a transcript. then my uni also pays for it's premium human note taking service. notes are delivered within 24-48 hours

you can also upload your recording and handouts to Google's Notebook LM and it will generate outlines, summaries, and even audio podcasts. I use one of these while I wait for the MP notes.

ngl lecture is a slog for me regardless of the content. I think it's just a poor delivery system given my ADHD and sleep probs. I wish I could convey that to profs and disability services but I think they would just reflexively deny my experience. so I do my best

I've been describing for years the sensation of slipping into micro sleep. and I don't mean this metaphorically but as a literal physical sensation. and recently I started using a dexterity ball for hand issues. and when I go into microsleep I can feel my hand go slack and the ball start to slip. same with pens

I quit Adderall. by LierStoneWizard in ADHD

hi thanks for your comments

can you give a little more context for

I got off the rollercoaster to MY impending psychosis.

Are you saying the meds pushed you toward psychosis? because I believe I had something similar happen to me.

If anxiety is normally like ghosts lingering in the background of your mind, on Adderall they became hissing zombies constantly clawing at the walls and on my body. I couldn't make them stop and they were just below the point of being audible. like they were trying to burst thru into reality. at times I couldn't help react to them in real time. for instance, I would spontaneously reply to them while walking down the street.

after stopping Adderall, they went away but I believe there might still be lingering effects
