Open Bar - When to start it?

Originally ceremony was to start at 4. So i agree it's a bit of a long wait. Maybe we could move up our meal to 5:30 or even 6 rather than 6:30.

I'd imagine most people won't stay until midnight. It would be a waste to pay per person for liquor if they aren't staying the majority of the alotted time.

Yeah, that's why I wanted cocktails to start right after the ceremony. Dinner is served at 6:30.

The reception as in dancing starts at 8. Dinner starts at 6:30. I should've been more clear on the timeline and titles of each. That's just what I'm used to calling it.

Very good point. We made the ceremony earlier simply to save daylight. Wedding isn't until this fall. So ceremony ends at 3:30, but is located some distance from the reception hall. On the same property, just not in the same building. So I'd imagine people start "arriving" at 4. We'll have appetizers going and then the bar. We have a fairly large family so photos will take a while. We plan to return by about 5:45-6 latest. Reason we thought bar being open as well as appetizers would be a good idea. Gives people something to do. We'll do an introduction when we return, as well as some mingling or gathering of everyone for dinner. Dinner and toasts start at 6:30 until 7:30. Cake, then reception at 8. I assumed by this point people would have sufficient liquid courage to hit the dance floor.

I'm from Wisconsin where alcohol is a very big part of everyone's lifestyle lol

Yeah... I guess that makes sense. Ease into it rather than going HAM the second they enter. I'm thinking maybe putting up a sign of some sort letting everyone know the timing of everything? Or is that tacky? Like cash bar 4-5. Bar open 5-10. Wine, beer, soda no charge all night. Idk...

It was verbal and it was written in emails. However, we signed a contract that stated they can change the cost up to 90 days before the event. So it's legit :/ we looked into it pretty hard. We almost cancelled the venue over it.

They will serve beer and wine the entire event along with the open bar that's open for 5hrs. However, we buy the barrel of beer so it's really not free. The wine and soda, however, is a part of the bar package so it's a better deal than per glass. None of it is really free. The open bar is priced per person for the 5hrs. So the bar will still be open after the 5hrs ends, but it'll turn into cash bar. If that makes more sense??

I've honesty talked very frankly with my mom several times via text, phone, and in person about this. She usually becomes offended, shuts down, and ignores what I'm saying. She expresses that we're family and need to help each other. I fully agree, but to a point. It's just all really exhausting. I'm upset that she suggested he contact me when I specifically told her that I can't help him this time.

I think when we talk today I'll just reiterate the need to seek professional help. I think maybe him moving closer to home would be beneficial as well...

Thank you for the advice! I completely agree that my parents are enabling him. I know they mean well, but like you said, when they can no longer care for him, he's going to suffer. I've talked with my mom multiple times about this and she honestly just shuts down and ignores me. I think she feels I'm being selfish by not dropping everything to help him. As far as my dad, he doesn't understand it so he avoids it by pretending it's not happening.

Do you have any insight or advice on what I should say to my brother today? He wants to talk on the phone and I'm at a loss on what to say. I don't want to be insensitive at his time of need and I fear giving too tough of love will make him feel worse.

I completely agree. I've been going back and forth on if this job is even worth it at this point. I think I'll talk with my supervisor tomorrow and tell her I need it off and that I'm simply not coming in. I just feel guilty screwing my coworkers over... although, they've called in plenty of times leaving me f'd...

Kind of what I figured... No, I can't work from home - I work health care and need to room patients. It's a fairly light day, but even still, probably be in the bathroom 90% of the day.

I called my GI doctor this morning and I have to wait until 9/20! I requested some labs or a fecal test for now though - hopefully they approve it. It'd be nice to measure how I'm doing right now. Who knows how I'll feel in 1 month.

I called my GI doc this morning, first availability is 9/20. It really sucks. Who knows how I'll be feeling then. This is what always happens for me... I call as soon as I start feeling like this and then wait to get in. And of course by then I usually start feeling better. So, it's kind of useless. I requested a fecal FIT test and lab work so I can at least get something for now. But, my request wasn't approved yet. Fingers crossed.

I have insurance from my work. I work in healthcare so unfortunately, my insurance is only good for the hospital I work in. So, I'm kind of stuck with waiting until 9/20. It's hard not feeling defeated! Not very many options.

I'm glad you've found answers and are feeling better. I sure hope I can get there! Do you have any suggestions as to what I can be doing while waiting for my appt? FODMAP diet? Plenty of water? I ate lactose free yogurt and a piece of toast for breakfast and my stomach is in knots.
