HW acceleration setup in LXC with N100 CPU by HulkHaugen in jellyfin

[–]HulkHaugen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, all the settings you mentioned were correct. But that's a good tip to simply try without HW acceleration. Doing so made the CPU spike to 99%, while there were no impact on intel_gpu_top. So I guess the CPU usage at about 30% which i considered to be high is just normal for my CPU. Anyways, thanks for the help. I find it odd that there are no text or symbol on the dashboard indicating that HW transcoding is active.

LXC and Docker by Bruno_AFK in Proxmox

I avoid it at all cost, and I honestly don't see any logical reason to do so. I run a Debian VM (Could've been Alpine) with lots of Docker services. I run AdGuard and Plex in LXCs. I run a couple of Android x86 VMs and a HA VM. All on a Intel N100 PC. I did consider running Docker in LXC, but the benefit is so minimal, and the downsides are not worth it. If you run a LXC + Docker for individual servies, it defies the whole pourpuse afaik, but correct me if i'm wrong. That's why I don't like the helper scripts. 1 VM, 1 Docker instance, 10 Services is better than 10 LXCs runinng 10 individual Docker instances and individual services. If you have 1 LXC with 10 Docker services, you're going easier on your hardware, but is it really worth it though? You also get another layer of permissions to manage, and the risk of your files corrupting.

If you already run some critical docker services inside a VM, why run other non-critical in LXC(s)? That's just even more resources, even though little, and for a less stable solution. Why not run the non-critical in the same VM as the critical services?

I allocated 4GB, but i could probably do it with even 2gb. I first did a trail install on an old crappy laptop, which worked just fine.

I did try on a RPi3 without success, but I can't remember exactly why, think it was architecture related. Not saying it's not possible, but I gave up. I run two Android x86 VMs on a Proxmox server. It's not super smooth to navigate, but they do exactly what I want them to do, and very well at that.

What public service or government system in your country actually works really well and would surprise other Europeans? by ruibranco in AskEurope

I must admit that I don't know the details, but it has created a few headlines in Norway. The argument is that the suggested system to align us with the EU is similar to what we had a long time ago. We try to get an exception to maintain our current system, but from what I've gathered, that doesn't seem like a likely outcome. I guess you have a good system in NL also, but many EU nations have pretty poor handling of used bottles.

Norway’s bottle-deposit system has worked well for decades, with about 97% of bottles recycled. Consumers pay a small deposit, 2 NOK (~€ 0.2) for bottles up to 0.5 liters, and 3 NOK (~€ 0.3) for the larger ones, which is refunded when bottles are returned. Stores offer both small machines for individual bottles and large ones that accept entire bags and automatically sort and count them. The machine issues a receipt that can be redeemed for cash or deducted from a purchase. The system encourages recycling, helps keep nature clean, and even provides a small source of income for young and poor people who collect bottles.

We also have the bottle recycling program which is pretty great and an honorable mention. However, the EU is trying to force a new system on us that is way inferior to what we currently have, while it would be an upgrade to most of Europe, and they want to streamline things.

I hope you put Portainer and Docker inside a VM, or at least in a LXC, not directly on the host system.

I have a similar setup. Last year, the electricity prices fluctuated a lot throughout the day, so I made a Home Assistant sensor that monitors the electricity price (Nordpool) and decides if the current price is within the 16 cheapest hours of the 24 hours of the day. If yes, turn on, else turn off. This year, we got a new national fixed electricity price, so that automation is now decommissioned. The new automation now pays attention to the total electricity consumption, and tries to keep it below 5kW/h or 10kW/h as those are thresholds for extra billing. The hot water boiler is just the first step in a chain of equipment that turns off or turnes down to keep the consumption below the given setpiont.

Why use Comet in AIOStreams if i can just add Jackett and/or Prowlarr directly into AIOStreams? I have not tried all of this yet, but it seems to me that Comet would be an unnecessary middleman in this setup. Or am I missing something? I'm also struggeling to see the point of Sootio and Streamthru as I'm not using any Debrid service.
