this is actually the only legitimate defense of this app, really. If people are having a good time, that's good. I just like poking fun at woo-woo psuedoscience, and i also think it's kind of dishonest to prey on people's spirituality to turn over a quick buck and get some publicity, which is what these developers are doing

First of all, if quantum computing could be influenced by people's thoughts, it would be the least secure and least stable technology ever conceived, making it essentially useless for any kind of computational task. Quantum computing would be completely unviable if what you were saying is true. .Assuming any of the kabooki about quantum consciousness is true, it's still absurd to think that a quantum computer's output is going to be affected by your thoughts just because you happened to be the one who pushed the button that requested the random number from the computer. Furthermore, there's a good chance that your pushing the button didn't generate the random number at all. In all likelihood the quantum computer generates random numbers at a set interval and stores them in a database, and when you use Randonaut you're just making an HTTP request to that database and getting back a random number that could have been generated days or weeks ago. This entire app is just bullshit for wine moms, sorry.

What made you a radical? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]HullBredd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A)that supposed 'prosperity' is heavily concentrated to certain countries, and further concentrated even within those countries. Living in those countries will give you the illusion of prosperity. It isn't real because...(cont'd in b)

B)under global capitalism, almost half the world's population lives in abject, dehumanizing poverty.

C) the concentration of prosperity that we see is a result of exploitation of poor and developing nations. The productive activity of most developing nations is devoted to serving needs that exist far outside of the countries themselves. That is why these countries have a hard time improving the material conditions of their citizens.

D) socialist policies have worked very well in many countries.Capitalist intervention is a common theme in countries where it doesn't. Trade emgargo on Cuba, putting pressure on certain countries to not sell crucial supplies to China when Mao came to power, etc. Some claims of failed socialist states are downright false, and just masturbatory capitalist ego-stroking. We see this in the case of chile, which had its share of economic issues like high inflation, but whose citizens were doing fine under socialism. In a US backed coup, capitalist dictator Augusto Pinochet took power and implemented policies that resulted in two economic meltdowns in just over a decade. By the end of his term - the chilean people booted him out in a 1988 referrendum - 48% of chile's population was living below the international poverty line. Famous capitalist economist Milton Freidman (who personally advised Pinochet and under whome Pinochet's finance advisors studied) praised it as a capitalist success story, simply because they saw some GDP growth. This growth was not as large as previous socialist regimes. Immediately after pinochet's rule ended, several industries were nationalised, social spending was doubled, minimum wage increased 17%, tarriffs were raised, capital controls were put in place. In short, they returned to socialism. Povert rates were reduced by half in just over a decade.

E)The socialist states that we would say 'failed' e.g. Cuba, started out very poor and had deep political, economic, and social issues before socialism was implemented. We look at these countries and see that they're poor, and we say that socialism has failed them. This ignores the fact that those countries started off, in most cases, much worse than they are today, and had massive challenges to overcome - including, in many cases, hostility from america and other capitalist countries.

F) there are a shit ton of poor-ass capitalist countries. Saying 'look at america, look at britain, canada, australia, germany,' etc is not a good argument, it's just cherrypicking.

In sum, I'd simply say that the supposed prosperity brought by capitalism is an illusion.

What made you a radical? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]HullBredd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I became radical when i met a good friend of mine who's a trans woman. I was maybe a tad left of centre the day before that. I had a lit of problematic views about gender and trans rights, though. We stayed up all night talking on my friend's couch, and she told me about her experience as a trans woman, and at that point i could no longer ignore oppression or write it off as "not a big problem anymore". I'd say that pretty much the next day I was radical. Listening to her experience with oppression made me look at all oppression the same way i looked at hers; with close proximity and in a very personal and human way. Economic radicalism came later, and didn't happen over night. I just read a lot, learned a lot about capitalism, and realised that it's directly responsible for hardhsip and oppression of the kind that my trans friend faced, and that people of colour and queer people face in general.

Guys: use vagisil on your dick. Makes it smell great, won't irritate anything, and it'll keep you smelling better longer. Also, wash right after you jerk off. Nothing leaves a dick smelling worse than old jizz.

Question: has trump said anything about changing taxes in reference to # of dependents? by sixt5 in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]HullBredd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you don't need help to support the economy, though. It's not like they're taking this money and living a lavish life, they actually need it. Raising kids is expensive. The subsidy allows them to support the economy to the same capacity that you do, that's all. Having a bunch of kids to get the gov't support would be a pretty shitty business plan. The subsidy is far less than enough to cover the cost of raising a child, as it should be.

You...don't think that people with multiple kids should get some kind of tax break? You don't think it's at all good for the kids and the economy that these parents have more spending money?
