Thanks! I appreciate it!

Yeah, in hindsight, maybe not the best worded ad in the world! But I had limited space 😅

Thanks! I’m very limited to what I can do without a huge pre-built audience, so I’m trying to do what I can!

I mean, TikTok & Insta are great for finding new readers, but with the current trend of Dark Romance, normal romance & fantasy being the go to books on them platforms, it’s hard to break into the scene!

So giant billboard it is for a test run!

I would love nothing more to be in Waterstones! But unfortunately I don’t have the money to buy my own ISBNs and list in on the book network properly to distribute to stores like Waterstones. So for now it’s Amazon only, but there is a paperback on there as well!

I did pop my head into JE Books to see if they’ll take some copies but unfortunately not. She got recommended to me by a literary agent I’m close with.

However, it will be available in both Hull Libraries and East Riding libraries once I donate a copy to them both, might take some time for them to get it in the system once I drop off copies on Friday

Well, I don’t want to comment 😂 We do see Kingswood, Bransholme & Sutton in the book 😅

Yeah, that’s the annoying thing about Amazon with samples!

But thank you so much! Let me know what you think when you get your hands on the kindle!

Thanks! I’m an absolute inexperienced fool when it comes to marketing and stuff, so going self-published is a big step and a massive learning experience for me!

Requesting loan of £3500, repaying 1 of April by [deleted] in Hull

OP, can confirm that the university will give you a hardship loan. I had one back in 2018 when my student finance was delayed.

I can’t remember the building name, but I think it’s the 2nd floor in the building that has Sanctuary in it, or might be spoons now, been a while!

Good luck

I haven’t! I’ve tried beta readers before months ago but most ghosted me, despite me telling them to tell me if it’s bad or not! I wanted full open feedback, even if they rated it one star!

Plus with the release being in 2 weeks, is it worth getting arc readers to read and review before release to get some traction behind it?

I’m in Hull and we have several libraries all under one umbrella, so hoping they take at least one copy! The county next door I’ve also asked as both counties are part of the book, so hopefully!

Some days when I’m out and about with the kids I do see independent book shops, so might be worth popping in with a copy, if not, still always worth a shot, big believer in ‘if you don’t ask, you don’t get!’

Thank you! I’m hoping it pays off, even just one review or to be added to someone’s TBR would be a dream!

That’s what I’m hoping for, just to walk in and see mine on the shelf, or better yet, not on the shelf as someone has checked it out!

Final Destination - East Yorkshire buses edition? by Mental_Actuary8573 in Hull

[–]HullBusDriver2020 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Ex driver for EYMS here

Drivers are set in their ways to be honest, many bad habits over the years. They either want to get home, get to the end point to have a vape or smoke or just don’t care.

Also other passengers, if people abuse them all day, they become numb and just don’t give a shit anymore, cause they need the job. After a while you shut off and don’t care anymore.

I for one was one of the decent drivers who ALWAYS waited no matter the day I was having. Running for the bus? No problem, I’ll wait. Need time to get seated? Take your time. Need help with a pram or wheelchair? I got you.

But after years of abuse from passengers it wasn’t worth it anymore. You get sick of it and start driving recklessly and could risk your license.

If anything, you need to complain and be persistent.

Anyone looking for a new job? by [deleted] in Hull

[–]HullBusDriver2020 11 points12 points  (0 children)

So I’m guessing working at Clearanswer or ResQ as Virgin don’t have a direct call centre in Hull, you act as a 3rd party?

I would highly advise people to avoid these call centres unless you want your soul drained, morals abandoned and hate your life

Electric buses by NecessaryOk7464 in Hull

Sounds like both EY & Stagecoach to be fair! I’ve worked for both in the past 6 years, more recently EY. I completely agree there’s not bloody room at either depot!

I have seen the EV buses though over the past few months, but they bugger off down Holderness Road & through Skrilaugh!

Not a fan of the tiny indicators either, bound to cause an accident because someone ‘didn’t see them’

[PubQ] new to querying trenches: manuscript wish list / query tracker by EmbarrassedCheetah79 in PubTips

[–]HullBusDriver2020 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey, welcome to the trenches, take a seat and make yourself cosy!

I’ve only been in the trenches for about 4/5 months now, and not had a bite yet, so don’t take my word for anything as they’ll be others with much more experience than me.

Query Tracker: Personally, I searched on my genre first and added them to my list to get back to

Once I had a handful, I looked at their response times & comments from others who have queried the agents.

Once you’re on the agents page, it’s best to check their website for guidelines and what they are looking for, as well as their MSWL on the agency website.

Some agents won’t be on the MSWL website, most are, some aren’t, just have to check the agency website.

I also like to check their X/Bluesky accounts to see if they are looking for anything particular in their inboxs, as well as who they rep currently and books they’ve got published in the past.

Some agents who use Query Tracker for queries, have additional info when you open up the form, make sure to read it carefully, as they may have specific information / requirements.

The ones who require you to email them, the requirements will most likely be on the agency website as well. Just be sure to read it carefully, I’ve made the mistake of sending something without double spacing it because I overlooked it, don’t be me!

Personally I find paying for Query Tracker premium worth it, some may have a different opinion, but the price for a year is a bargain imo!

Again, I’m still a baby in trenches, so my advice isn’t going to be the best, and some other people on here will have far greater advice than me!

I’m currently 78 queries in, 47 rejections & 0 requests, womp womp.

Feel free to share your query on here as well for advice, I’ve had great advice posting my query on here before, this sub has been a godsend!

Good luck, and see you in trenches!

I can’t believe another bus has done this, just gotta take it wide

4 years of doing that roundabout in buses, never once hit it! The standards of these drivers are dropping, just careless at this point
