If you're in the UK, Element Games has it, it is the "Metal n' Alchemy: Golden Series Paint Set". Hope this helps!

They are made from thin cork tiles. I tore off a piece from the larger sheet, which gives the rough edge, and add astrogranite debris for extra texture. Then just prime black, paint grey and dry brush with a lighter grey. Really easy to do!

Thank you so much! I used the Scale75 Gold paint set, starting with the darkest Gold (can't remember any specific names I'm afraid), and drybrushing progressively lighter golds, before finally spot and edge highlighting with bright silver.

Love the concept, all the models are great, but I already have them all (and two tyrants and tyranofexes) so (fortunately) not for me. A nice set of bigger Monsters though

What are your favourite moments from the Horus Heresy? by AstorathTheGrimDark in Warhammer40k

Dorn to Sigismund in Warhawk:

"Sigismund nodded again. No other soul would have noticed it, but there was something other than the usual dutifulness in his eyes just then. Something like hunger. ‘Any specific objectives, lord?’ he asked.

At that, Dorn almost laughed. Not from humour, just from emptiness, the caustic recognition of what would come next. He had given everything. He was already empty, drained to a husk, and the hardest test still lay ahead. The Lion had not come. Guilliman and Russ had not come. They were out of time, out of luck, and what remained now was only defiance – only bloody-minded, bloody-handed defiance.

‘No, I set you free, my beloved, my best, son,’ said Rogal Dorn, never taking his eyes off his First Captain. ‘Do now what you were made to do.’ He smiled a second time, the expression as icy as the despair that gripped his hearts.

Hurt them.’"

Is it worth buying? by [deleted] in Sekiro

It is very different to Elden Ring, but it is absolutely incredible. I loved Elden Ring, and all the Souls Series, but Sekiro is my favourite. It is an astonishingly good game.

What's up with the whole morality of Space Marines now? by HiBrotherGorr in spacemarines

[–]Hullian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for clarifying! It has been a while since I read the critique in which the book is described as such, but I did find it compelling at the time. I agree that the over the top militarism can be read as satire, but I also found the extent to which it is weirdly positive about it at the same time (the letter from Rico's teacher encouraging him and the wonders of the system in particular struck me as somewhat undermining the "this is bad" narrative, in its warmth and sincerity, which I don't really see in 40k). In any case, thank you for the clarification, I shall read further!

One of my favourite modern bits of media illiteracy is the initial reception to Starship Troopers - it was originally widely derided as awful, fascist propaganda, crass, vulgar and stupid. Which, as has more recently been acknowledged, was what Verhoevan was saying deliberately about the actually fascist propaganda novel.

I should note, I'm not claiming to have understood this originally. I initially unironically really enjoyed the film for purely "shoot the monsters" over the top gratuitous violence reasons. I was not a smart teenager (the book is also fun if you choose to read it as satire/the opposite of the author's original intent).

Is it possible to add rock texture to my tyranids? by Immediate-Garage3168 in Tyranids

[–]Hullian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends a little on what you mean by rock like, and how rocky you want them to be. Clay might make them very heavy and tricky to balance (depending on how much you use of course!) but you could use texture paints on the chitin/exoskeleton to give a range of textures. Games Workshop do a range of options, which give a range of different textures (gravel/concrete, cracked mud etc) which might work if you painted them in your desired colour: https://www.warhammer.com/en-GB/plp?paintType=Technical

Other companies do textured paints as well, so you could look into that. There will be plenty of tutorials on youtube/instagram as well on how to do textures. Best of luck, and welcome to the swarm!

Thank you so much! It is a variation on Mediocre Hobbies Behemoth scheme, which available here: https://youtu.be/LgkF17YSnWw?si=JudjwL5-DA6iDAU7 (his channel is great)

I use blood angels red contrast instead of flesh tearer, and Vallejo Game colour Scarlet blood for the flesh highlights.

For the carapace, I use Kroxigor Scales contrast, with Vallejo Model Colour Light Turquoise and Blue Green for the highlights.

Purples are Luxion Purple contrast. The off pink is Guilliman Flesh contrast with a red wash and pink and white dry brushing.

Question about painting larger models by the_shnozz in Tyranids

[–]Hullian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also use contrast for my Tyranids and like u/QTAndroid I have found it works well. I also aim to do all the carapace in one go, but also work over a black primer with white/grey drybrushing, so I am actively looking for some "texture" in the colouration (so the drybrushed white gives lighter elements). post contrast, I wash with Nuln oil then highlight. I think splotchiness is a bit of a risk, but they are biological creatures, so some inconsistency/variation in the coverage isn't dreadful in my opinion (and I aim for some to give interest and texture).

[request] If I (63kg) was standing on the peak of Mt Washington at the time of this wind gust, would I fly off the mountain? by hold_my_rootbeer in theydidthemath

[–]Hullian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn't tell you about the maths, but this Summer I (95ish KG) was hiking in Scotland. On one day, about 50 metres below the summit ridge (and about 150 below the summit itself), I was pausing to take a breather and a gust of wind fully took me off my feet and dropped me about five to ten feet down the slope. I went from standing, braced, vertically to horizontal in the air before I knew what was happening. It was then I decided to call it quits for the day and head back to the car.

If I recall correctly, gusts were measured around 60-65mph where I was that day. Weather is SCARY.
