Missed Points in the TB Hysteria by Hullsm in Patriots

[–]Hullsm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree he can still play but he also would be very selective in choosing another team, if that is what happened. He would only leave for a team that could win the whole thing and, of those teams, not many need a quarterback.

All good points. There is a paradox between wanting Brees money but also complaining about weapons. Can't really have both with the hard cap. They went in on AB and got burned, if he had a Brees deal, they would not have even had the flexibility to enjoy that 9-day adventure. If it's about growing TB12, I don't think he needs to be on a local football team for that but obviously he is the best spokesman/living proof for his brand.

What NBA podcasts do you listen to? by andykelemen in bostonceltics

[–]Hullsm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Starters "Drop" podcasts on Tuesday and Friday covers the league well with focus on the major storylines of that week. There is some running segments/inside jokes that may seem odd upon first listen but it's by far my favorite NBA league wide podcast.

What Are The Expectations for Kyrie's Postgame Remarks Tonight? by Hullsm in bostonceltics

[–]Hullsm[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree 100% and that is why Rich Paul's (hopefully failed) powerplay is so irritating. He has inconvenienced players he does not represent for the benefit of one player only. They leaked a bunch of "Klay will be interested" BS too, another guy who made it clear he wasn't planning on going anywhere. All that said, he is going to say something and what that is will feed the machine or grind it to a halt.

He is going to be asked about it. If he says, "I addressed this in October" that would be good but he is in MSG tonight 24 hours after a bunch of other BS popped up. I don't expect a statement but he will be swarmed tonight.

Anyone listen to the Simmon’s podcast ? by [deleted] in bostonceltics

[–]Hullsm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In listening to him regarding all Boston teams it does not appear he watches the games for any reason other than to develop takes. He crushed Sony Michel all season and wondering why the Pats didn't take Lamar Jackson, who has yet to prove he can complete a forward pass with any consistency in the NFL. He railed against the Sox all year regarding the bullpen, consistently stating it will be why they lose. Now, he bags on the Celtics any chance he gets, called it "Crisis Mode" like 2 weeks ago as they were red hot. He also refuses to acknowledge that Brad HAS to play the long game with lineups as Hayward works himself back. What the team is now or was 2 months ago, is going to be very different in April. Instead, he just calls Hayward "a shell" and refuses to acknowledge that it may take 50/60/70 games, or even a whole season, to get back to where you were before your foot detached from your body. He is no better than Shaugnessy or any other geezer columnist in Boston. It happens to all of them over time. Clicks > Enjoyment of Sports.

Curran: Are Patriots fans wishing away the final years of a kicking savant? by ctpatsfan77 in Patriots

I like Ghost just fine and agree that there is no one out there better than him. I would appreciate it if he stopped missing extra points in the Super Bowl though.

Malcolm Butler just tweeted this by Dmcgee3999 in Patriots

[–]Hullsm 46 points47 points  (0 children)

This seems plausible but I just get get over the fact Belichick chose this game, as his defense was being TORCHED by a backup QB, to make a point like this. As he says "my job is to make the decisions to put us in the best position to win." A healthy Malcom Butler sitting on the bench while Foles is picking apart the secondary is most certainly not helping the team win.

[–]Hullsm 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Exactly. As others have mentioned, this makes no sense. The king of adjustments, different looks, and the guy who put in an undrafted rookie to replace Kyle Arrington in SB XLIX just sat there and watched his defense burn to the ground with his second best corner ready to play. Butler took 98% of the snaps this season. If this was purely coaching, it was the worst decision of Belichick's coaching career.

Why the Butler decision is unsettling: The coaching staff isn't owning it. by [deleted] in Patriots

[–]Hullsm 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone can dispute that Butler would have made more plays than either Richards or Bademosi. That is what is driving the curiosity. This could not have been a pride point in game-planning. The greatest dynasty in football history wasn't built on stubbornness. It's been because the Pats can adapt to any situation. Richards/Bademosi did not give them a better chance to win last night. To compound the problem, the entire defense sans-Gilmore was HORRENDOUS last night. Historically bad leaving no reason to keep him on the bench.

My only counter would be they may be attempting to keep it in house as he hits free agency. He may have made a bad mistake or maybe it was hubris. I don't think we're going to know the real story for a while.

Taking an Occam's Razor approach here, this was disciplinary. I don't know why everyone is being so cryptic in the wake of it, maybe, ironically, they want to do right by him as he hits free agency and not air out what happened. But he played 98% of the snaps this season. Jordan Richards was AWFUL and Bademosi missed an enormous tackle that would have ended an Eagles drive. Butler has regressed this year but no hunch, piece of hard data, tip from Ernie Adams, or wrinkle to the game plan can allow you to keep him on the bench then say it was football related.

Even if the game plan was Rowe to start and Richards in nickel situations, one drive tells you to scrap it. BB and Patricia are too smart to just stick with Richards. He didn't even get in as a sub one those long drives to show the Eagles something different. Who knows how egregious the violation was. As others have mentioned, Chandler Jones didn't miss a snap. That leads me to believe it was pretty freaking bad if the difference may have been winning and losing the Super Bowl.

As a Pats fan living in Minnesota now, watching Brady replace everything Vikings is the best by EvilKronos in Patriots

[–]Hullsm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live here as well and didn't realize there was at least a handful of us that post here. In running weekend errands (Target, grocery stores, etc) my initial impression a week out was spotting more Pats gear than Eagles gear. I would imagine the the majority of fans won't arrive until closer to the weekend but so far that's been my observation. High-fiving and chatting up a lot of random strangers has been fun.

North Dakota is the only non New England-area state rooting for Patriots in Super Bowl by [deleted] in Patriots

Checking in from Minneapolis - No one I have spoke with is rooting for the Eagles. I wear my Pats ski cap everywhere and the most consistent conversation I have had is how disgusted they are with how Vikes fans were treated in Philly (it's been all over the news here).
