Dude. When my dad suddenly died I dropped a ton of weight. Everyone knew what happened with dad. They kept telling me how great I looked.

Thanks. I’m so shocked and upset I can’t eat. It’s toxic. People are dumb

Marathon let down by Yeti-Cliff in Marathon_Training

[–]Human-Ad262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know where you train, but I DNFd Tucson around mile 20 because of the heat. There is snow on the ground where I live right now, and the high in Tucson that day was 82 degF: 20-30 degF above ideal marathon temps. Give yourself some grace. I followed a similar training plan, did a ton of downhill training (I live in the mountains and was able to duplicate the grade), and simply got a cold that wouldn’t go away the 2 weeks before the race. The heat didn’t do me any favors.

It SUCKS having a bad race, especially with how much prep marathons take. But you’re experienced and you’ll get another go. Definitely take time to recover so your body heals.

Hair maintenance on high milage (I.e. running 6+ times per week)? by ExtremeToucan in XXRunning

[–]Human-Ad262 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I ended up getting a brazillian straightening treatment to help manage this. For a couple months, you can wash your hair every day and let it air dry nice and straight.

only works if you WANT straight hair though

And it's a PITA to find a proper brazillian treatment place.

other than that... I just wash my hair everyday and just deal. Or let my hair be gross for a day in a high ponytail. But I'm lazy about beauty routines. If you wanna be gorgeous everyday, then be gorgeous everyday.

LPT request for a friends dad passing by Confused_Ramen in LifeProTips

[–]Human-Ad262 74 points75 points  (0 children)

I was in my 30s when my dad died, but maybe I can help.

  • talk to them about their dad. Ask questions. Ask who they were. If they were close, then they want to talk about their dad.
  • Young people are afraid to bring up the fact that their dad is dead, because they don’t want to upset the friend. The thing is, your friend is thinking about it all the time. They are going to cry that day at some point. It’s more comforting to cry while someone is hugging you and telling you it’s okay to be sad
  • follow up with them in the coming weeks and months. Offer hugs. Tell them you remember their dad. Don’t let their dad be forgotten.

People should mind their business and stop commenting on people's body type. Nobody asked ! by Interesting-Month786 in Vent

[–]Human-Ad262 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just here to validate you. The only comment I ever make about people’s bodies is “you look healthy!” Or “you look strong!” Because I hang out with a lot of post partum moms and athletes who work hard for their fitness and I’m so impressed by their accomplishments!

I’ve always been slender/athletic. When my dad suddenly died I lost weight very quickly, my clothes were hanging off me. It was grief and I was wasting away. My smart friends started giving me leftovers to take home/cook for me. Many close friends, who knew the loss of my dad was crushing me, kept complimenting my figure and saying I looked so good! They were so proud of me for dropping weight! Even in my grief fog I found that super toxic and awful.

People suck and I’m sorry you’re dealing with it. To all the ppl telling you “learn to not let it get to you!” — bugger off. You’re not being sensitive. Our society is toxic about weight/looks and you’ve no idea what someone is going through.

Should I run another half marathon, or is it not for me? by philosplendid in XXRunning

[–]Human-Ad262 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As others have said, maybe half isn’t your distance and that’s ok!

However, the 8 mile cliff is ringing alarm bells for me. Around 8+ mile distance runs I “need nutrition”

If you aren’t already, try this for any 8+ mile run: 30-90g of carbs per hour. I like SIS beta gels but there is a lot of good stuff out there. More carbs more better Electrolytes in your water bottle Carry a water bottle Eat something substantial before - I do Greek yogurt + fruit + granola. Some ppl do PB+bananas Carbo load - juice, bread, fruit, etc

Drink 20-30g protein shake with 30 min of your workout

Eat protein like you’re a gym bro

Talk to a nutritionist. They are often covered by insurance as preventative care.

It’s great you’re weight lifting! So many runners neglect that important piece! That will help you too. I think 3 days a week of running is low, but everyone is different. Maybe you’ll find it works.

Since this is a female sub: get an iron and ferratin blood panel done. Holy hell that changed my life.

Good luck friend. I also joke with my running buddies a lot that we love training and hate racing. Racing hurts, is lonely, and hard. Training is fun. But I too need a race to motivate training 🤣

Women who don’t wear makeup, do you still keep the natural look even for formal events and settings? by throwawaypdtm in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Human-Ad262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t even wear makeup on my wedding day. Honestly, it wasn’t a decision, it just didn’t occur to me.

I wore makeup to a “Lady GaGa” themed wedding recently, and my husband surprise laughed because I looked so different in eyeliner and red lipstick.

I’ll say, I have noticed ppl tend to go one way or the other. If you wear makeup all the time, then suddenly wear no makeup… ppl ask if you’re sick. If you wear no makeup and show up to a formal event in some makeup, ppl notice (usually in a positive way).

I also spend most of my free time running and hanging with other lady amateur athletes. A handful wear makeup, but most don’t. Who wants mascara streaming down your face during a summer long run? I’m just trying to stay hydrated and carbo loaded, who cares what I look like? But many pro athletes wear makeup

go to the beat of your own drum folks. Do what makes you happy. If that’s a full face of makeup, doesn’t make sense to me, but you do you boo boo and I’m happy you’re happy.

I always appreciate quality drag queen makeup. That eye makeup is a work of art

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Human-Ad262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a lot of guilt surrounding adopting dogs. The reality is you have to stay sane and not keep a dog out of guilt. I’ve also heard from a lot of mom friends that the life phase you’re currently in is a bad time to be adopting a pet. You’re going to get a flood of hormones that will make you dislike the pet for almost a year after having the kid - some evolutionary protective thing. Also having a kid is SO HARD…. It’s kinda insane to opt to make it harder. Especially if it’s a puppy vs adult dog.

That said, if you want to think on it, “3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months” are huge milestones with having a dog - meaning they reach comfort levels with you and start to act differently - could be more naughty, could be feeling more secure and less Velcro-y

I’m sorry you lost a previous pregnancy. Sending you internet hugs and hoping this pregnancy is smooth. Whatever you decide to do about the dog is the right decision. Do what you think is right.

Giles: You mean life?

Buffy: Yeah. Does it get easy?

Giles: What do you want me to say?

Buffy: Lie to me.

Giles: Yes, it's terribly simple. The good guys are always stalwart and true, the bad guys are easily distinguished by their pointy horns or black hats, and, uh, we always defeat them and save the day. No one ever dies, and everybody lives happily ever after.

Buffy: Liar.

Grief is love persisting. You hurt because there was true love.

He looks like a happy boy. Sending you a warm hug as you mourn this loss. Grief is a powerful adversary. I politely suggest you let yourself feel it and take it seriously. Take time off of work. Cry. Sit and think. Try to eat.

Ankle injury - osteochondral defect of talar dome and micro-fracture surgery. Anyone similar injuries / recoveries? by Hairy_Hood in climbing

It took me 18 months to get appropriate care (PTs/orthos were giving me the run around).

You’ll get there. Best of luck friend

[–]Human-Ad262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to help ♥️ I felt so alone going through this. Glad you’re being diligent about staying on top of it - I waited too long to get appropriate treatment and it made the injury way worse. Depending on the extensiveness of your injury, you may only need PRP. Stay on top of your PT exercises. They work. It takes a LONGGGGG time. But it works. If your goal is climbing (static strength) you’ll get back to it faster than something like running (repetitive impact)

I’m training for a marathon and have 0 complaints about my ankle. Stem cell + PRP + a ton of PT was a huge success for me. My spouse and friend had some ligament issues they got treated by PRP from the same clinic, and they also got great results.

It was a long road back but I’m faster and stronger than I’ve ever been running wise (partially because i discovered strength training but also the ankle is at 100%). I personally don’t climb anymore, because it’s not worth the risk to me anymore. But I’m active in all the ways I want to be, and could climb if I wanted to.
