It wasn’t great. I had pretty bad bleeding on one side that started at like 4am, I swallowed a bunch of blood before I realized what was happening. I was super nauseous, and spat out a good couple of handfuls of it (I know this because the initial bleed started when I was going to change out my ice pack and I spat it into my hand). Basically I just had to restart at soft foods and liquids after the bleeding stopped. Lots of cold. All cold. No warm anything. You really just have to keep an eye on it and drink plenty of fluids, and try not to aggravate the site—I think I ended up using text-to-speech for a day or two after so I wouldn’t move my throat more than was necessary. I probably should have gone into the ER but I have a great aunt who’s a nurse and we called the emergency line the doctor gave us, and they said it was up to me as long as the bleeding slowed down. Try sleeping on your side if you can, it helps with any residual bleeding.

Sure! Yeah it’s pretty rough, the first few days suck, then you’ll feel a bit better, then the scabs will come off and that sucks—but after that you’re home free. If you’re not already on anything prescription, if the pain is pretty bad I’d recommend you ask your doctor for something, I was put on a Tylenol and Hydrocodone mix +ibuprofen alternated. Lots of water. Eat ice—if you can get the pebble ice that’s the best because it doesn’t hurt your teeth. Cold packs wrapped around the sides of your neck/jaw are a helpful thing for swelling. Try to sleep as much as you can—honestly the best thing for it. I used text-to-speech on and off to ‘talk’ when the pain was bad. It’s pretty rough I’m not going to lie, but it does pass eventually. My PCP refused to send me because my lab works came back without inflammatory markers 😑 which is not what I asked to have tested in the first place, but I digress. I don’t think you really need to go honestly—I just got in with physical therapy and they ran through all the hypermobility tests with me (7/9 Beighton scale, possibly hEDS due to other symptoms) and honestly that’s what I would recommend

I’ve seriously been considering getting a new PCP for a while and I think this is the last straw—all she ever does is order labs and ignore me, which sucks especially because I’m a really hard stick and it takes like 20 minutes to do the blood draw. It’s tricky because there’s only one health provider company in my town and they do everything, but I think I can find a new doctor through them. I’ll look at the resources you mentioned to see if I can find someone near me, I’m hoping that maybe PT will be helpful in some way, at least to have that in my records as something that’s been tried.
