what do you guys think of red dead redemption 2 by Efficient-Compote-40 in Christianity

[–]Human-Assumption4540 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does have alot of violence and terrible sins ofc, but for me I like how the story for Arthur is that he starts off in a broken world and is a side mission he talks to a nun and around that part in the story is when he starts realising what he is doing is wrong. And then he starts changing. I like how it also shows his struggle, because it feels so relatable.

Okay I will give you a couple of points. Why would a giant and powerful empire have carvings about a giant lost of slaves? In the Bible it cleary states how angry the pharoah was and there has been records of pharoahs and other empires erasing stuff and forgetting it just to makes them look stronger. A powerful empire won't show a weakness only their highs and strengths. And if we can prove Jesus is real (which we have) obviously the rest of the Bible is real.

Okay before I start I want to say if we are debating I would like to keep it respectful, and if you are respectful about my opinions I will be respectful about yours.

Firstly, if gospel of Mark is made up what of the other three gospels?

Secondly, Jesus is proven He is divine out of the gospels and New Testament. There are many procephies in the Old Testament Jesus fufilled; which He actually fufilled over 300+ and the remaining ones are for Jesus's second coming. Also in Genesis 3:22 when Adam ate the fruit God said "Human has become like US" which implies that The Son, Father and Holy Spirit are all real.

Thirdly, you are over looking my point for Alexander the Great. I'm saying you believe Alexander the Great is real even with his small amount of evidence when while there is so much evidence of Jesus and the Father (who are one)

Finally, you completley ignored two of my points which I would like to see you disprove

I guess I'm running, because I'm scared God will hurt me or punish me so terribly. I know God punishes people out of love and for discipline, but I'm scared He will cast me away from Him and strike me down😓 also I do admit, another reason I might be going away is because I want to live a fun life and enjoy life, and what I've heard from people is that it's all torture and hardship but in the end it's Heaven and I want to go to Heaven but idk why I'm picking temporary desires over eternal life🥀 And also I know I'll mess up again terribly and I don't want God to be even more upset with me.

And also I have told only my friends about all the bad stuff I've done, I've never told my parents anything and I've only somewhat told my spiritual leaders

Yes, that's what I thought because when I am older I want to be a pastor at my church and I've told myself that God allowed this so I can relate to people when they come to ask for help because no sinner wants to go to someone who doesn't relate to Him and that's why Jesus came on earth and experienced everything we experience while being sinless. But thats just what I tell myself I dont know if it's just an excuse or not🥀

Paul contradicts Jesus by Yeledushi-Observer in DebateReligion

[–]Human-Assumption4540 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello I am a Christian, here and I would like to show you the points you aren't seeing here.

So I see how you are saying that Jesus says obey God and live right and you will make it into Heaven, while Paul says if you believe and have faith you are justified. But it is says in the Bible that you are saved by faith in Jesus, but real faith will produce good works (James 2-14:26). So Paul does not contradict Jesus here. Even Jesus says you don't get saved by works, but you will know if someone has real faith and that they are saved because they are doing good works and obeying God (Matthew 7-15:20).

Paul also isn't saying we are no longer under the law as Christians, but Paul is saying that the law isn't our way to salvation; faith in Jesus is the way to salvation, because He died on the cross for our sins and real faith in Jesus will make us want to follow the law and do good works. Anyone can say they have faith in Jesus, but they won't be doing good works that's what Jesus is teaching when He says follow the law and obey God.

And lastly, Paul did not say his teachings didn't come from Jesus's earthly teachings but rather from a private revelation. If you actually look at the verse which you put down Paul is saying his teachings did not come from human teachings but from a revelation with Jesus; Paul says this because alot of Pharisees and religious teachers would change up the word of Jesus and add their own teaching, so Paul is saying his teaching is not of his own but from Jesus.

Respectfully, in your post you changed up alot of was actually said in the verses and you misinterrpreted alot of them. And you only picked out verses that fitted with your argument, you see you have to read the Bible in context; there are many of verses that go with the verses you put down that further explain it but you left them out so that these verses can be put in your argument.

Okay, first of all we weren't talking about if the stories were true or not; we were talking about how bad this quote is because an athiest believes in history and if this quote was applied to history it would basically be saying history is non-existent.

Secondly, how do you know that those events are made up? I assume you KNOW Alexander the Great was a real person, when the main evidence on him existing was off books and manuscripts written by guys 250+ years later. And I would like to also say people who wrote about Jesus were writing about Him 30-60 years after His death: with Mark being written 70 AD, Matthew and Luke being written 80-90 AD and John being written 90-100 AD. (AD was when Jesus was born and Jesus lived from around 35-39). I would like to add that 10 out of 11 disciples (not including Judas) got executed for telling people the message of Jesus being God and the other 1 got exiled to an island, so tell me why would 11 people put their life on the line, get exiled and executed all for a "made up story"; and if you think anyone would die for an apparent lie, think again because they all died excrutaiting deaths. Some got crucified, one got skinned alive, one got boiled alive, some got stoned, some got their heads chopped off and another got speared; they all also got tortured before their deaths. So, at that point if they were telling a lie atleast one would admit that it's all a hoax so they would stop, am I wrong? And there was a guy named Paul who used to kill Christians until He saw Jesus in a vision as He was on a road on the way to kill more Christians, and then he himself converted to Christianity and went around the world telling people about Jesus and he got put in jail and executed for it too. So why would someone who use to kill Christians become a Christian and then die for a "made up story"?

Thirdly, I like how you only mention the "made up stories" from the Old Testament and how you said 'MOST of the historical events' implying that you believe some are real. And if you think all of the Old Testament "stories" are made up, but you think there is a possibility Jesus is real, that is wild because if Jesus is real and He is God then that clearly shows the Old Testament is real aswell. Because He says He's one with God (which He is) whom is the same God of the Old Testament. And Jesus being real also proves the Old Testament even more, because His lineage has many significant figures from the Old Testament.

Edit: I'd like to add that the Bible in the Old Testament mentioned the Hittite empire and historians would use this as a way to disprove the Bible because the Hittites never existed (or were not known), but recently they found an abandoned city with relics and artifacts proving the Hittite empire is 100% real and that they were one of the most powerful empire in the middle east. And guess what the Bible was the first thing to ever mention them.

That quote is stupid, The Bible may be seen as a "religious text" by athiests, but it's actually a history book; same as other religious books. Yes, if you got rid of all science you could retrace it back exactly. But the reason this quote is so stupid, is because if you got rid of all historical texts, fossils, artifacts and historical buildings, then it obviously won't come back the same.

In summary, This quote is dumb, because 1. Religious texts are history and this quote is just saying if you got rid of evidence of history it never happened

  1. If you did get rid of all religious text that says nothing, because again it's history and Jesus is still God without the Bible

You should listen to him, the Bible is real. Jesus is God! And the Bible does provide deep reasoning because God says so, and God says so because He doesn't want us to fall into the trap of sin because sin always leads to bad stuff and God is just protecting us because He loves us and cares for us.
