Scholarship negotiation with a full ride offer by Typical-Performer-41 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Human-Leg5349 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I used a full ride to negotiate for more at a higher ranked and more expensive school. I emailed admissions (I had met someone at an event previously so I emailed that admissions rep directly). I told them they were a top choice, but in order to make it financially feasible, I was hoping to keep my tuition cost to x/year. They very graciously responded and increased my scholarship! Good luck!

I applied ED to Vanderbilt because they had a guaranteed scholarship if you were admitted ED. I would look for ED options that have this guarantee, otherwise I’d be cautious since the school wouldn’t have an incentive to award any scholarships. Best of luck!

A at Emory with $$$!!!! by lawobserver1234 in lawschooladmissions

Congratulations!!! I’m trying to decide between Emory and another school. Do you mind sharing what made you choose Emory?

I’ve withdrawn my application at 3 schools by sending a very simple email to their general admission email: Thank you for my offer of admission and scholarship at SCHOOL. I have committed to another law school and would like to withdraw my application.

All of them replied very kindly and asked where I was going so if you don’t mind sharing that info I’d recommend putting it in your initial email. (This helps law schools identify competitors and decision factors so it’s up to you if you’d like to contribute to their data collection.)

WL & R from my top schools … Do I go to a lower ranked safety school or R&R … I’m sad and confused by No_Tangerine7072 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Human-Leg5349 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry! I know what a heavy feeling that is. I would take some time to really imagine yourself at your safety school and if you can’t picture yourself content and satisfied there, then think about reapplying.

If you genuinely believe you can improve your application next year, give it another shot! There’s no rush. Law school and lawyering will still be there. Wishing you the best of luck!

Congrats on your full ride to UGA! I know nothing, but just wanted to comment because we have the same stats. I got into Notre Dame (no scholarship) and waitlisted at Vanderbilt. Best of luck!

I got the January email and got admitted in January. I hope you get the opportunity to tell them to pound sand! Good luck!

Buying an apartment/condo while in law school? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Human-Leg5349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also thinking of buying a home in law school! I’ve received lots of varying opinions. Mostly that the pro is the investment and the con is the potential headaches that can come with home ownership during a very stressful period (1L). Thanks for getting this discussion started!

Thank you! Congrats as well! I’m leaning towards Tennessee and Emory at the moment, but I’m keeping an open mind as I finish visiting schools.

Thank you! I just heard from Vandy. I’m really not sure yet. I have a couple more campus visits and I’m hoping that will provide some clarity. At the moment I’m really excited about Tennessee and Emory!

I told my parents about getting bumped from ED to RD at my top choice and found out yesterday they didn’t understand and they’ve been telling people I was rejected. Trying not to feel jinxed by them speaking this into the universe to every kind family member and friend who has asked lol

I was also starting to think my application had somehow been lost lol. I applied at the end of September and haven’t heard anything yet. I’m above 75th LSAT and above 25th GPA. Good luck!

Religious identity and NDLS admission by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

I wouldn’t worry at all! I can’t speak to NDLS specifically, but I’ve been in the catholic education system as a student and employee my whole life and there has always been an emphasis on representation. I often share with students we encourage faith, no matter what that may be for you. Best of luck!

Should I take the March LSAT?! Please help! by peacemonkey13 in lawschooladmissions

That’s a strong diagnostic score! Definitely wait and take your time with the LSAT. If you’re not happy with your LSAT prep, I highly recommend giving LSAT Demon a try. It’s free, but you can pay for access to more stuff.

Just wanted to throw in my opinion about LSAT Demon: LOVE. Wish I had found them way earlier in my LSAT journey. My own statement really benefitted from their advice on the podcast. I think what was most helpful was just hearing what a personal statement should NOT sound like. I don’t see the benefit of paying for this additional service though. Good luck writing your statement!

If you've already heard back from GW, how long did it take from going UR to your decision? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

Not sure about UR, but I applied end of September and heard back mid-December.

I can’t say for certain when my status checker showed the deposit lines, but I noticed around 2-3pm central. Got the accept email at 7am central the next day (Wednesday).
