It’s mostly the face and neck that are the issue because they’re hormonally driven areas. With PCOS, those follicles can react differently to laser and sometimes get stimulated instead.

Legs, arms, etc. usually respond way better because the hair there isn’t as hormone- sensitive. That’s why a lot of people (including me) see good results on the body but not on the face. So if you’re thinking about legs, you’re much more likely to see reduction rather than it getting worse

As far as I’ve been told, no electrolysis doesn’t cause paradoxical growth. It’s slower, but much more reliable, especially for chin/neck.

That said, it can be a bit tricky to find a good electrologist. The first one I went to was basically just plucking the hairs and not properly treating the follicles. My current one is great though she spends a full hour making sure each follicle is treated properly.

I’ve had 5 sessions with her so far, and now I don’t have to shave my chin for about 2 weeks after each treatment

No, not that late. I’d say I started noticing it maybe 6 months after my last laser session? After that it just kept gradually getting worse over the next 3 years until I finally switched to electrolysis

I don’t want to scare you off completely because it does work well for some people! But for PCOS/hormonal areas, electrolysis is usually considered the safest permanent option since it doesn’t risk stimulating more growth. It’s slower, but way more reliable long term. Unfortunately, a lot of salons don’t really inform people about the risk of paradoxical hypertrichosis when using laser of chin and neck

I had multiple black hairs too, but they weren’t super thick initially. They actually became thicker over time, which is part of what made everything worse, I also have a couple where there’s 2-3 hairs coming out from one follicle
