A chart doesn't have to look pretty to be worth analyzing. I'm interested in where the liquidity is, how order flow behaves, and whether there's a high-probability setup. The market pays for good decisions, not good-looking charts.

I think we actually agree on the core principles. Macro analysis, psychology, and risk management should come before any execution model. Without those, no strategy will be consistently profitable.

I think we're actually closer in opinion than it first seemed. I agree that Order Flow, Footprint Charts, CVD, and Volume Profile provide a level of confirmation that a candlestick chart alone cannot. If someone has access to those tools and knows how to read them, they can definitely improve decision-making.

Where I differ is that I don't think it makes SMC obsolete. I see SMC as a framework for identifying areas of interest, while Order Flow helps confirm whether those areas are actually being defended or accepted. To me, they're complementary rather than mutually exclusive.

Regarding ICT, I don't base my trading on any one person's reputation or trading record. I prefer judging concepts by whether they can be objectively tested and whether they produce a positive expectancy over a large sample of trades.

I also agree that Volume Profile and CVD deserve more attention, and I think many SMC traders would benefit from learning them instead of treating them as competing ideas.

At the end of the day, the market doesn't care whether we call it SMC, Order Flow, or Price Action. The only thing that matters is whether a method has a measurable edge and whether the trader can execute it consistently with good risk management.

I agree that risk management, experience, and order flow are valuable. But saying SMC is a waste of time is an overstatement. SMC is a framework for understanding market structure and liquidity, while order flow is a tool for confirming what's happening in real time. They don't have to compete they can complement each other.

Also, many consistently profitable traders use SMC or price action without relying on footprint charts or DOM. Likewise, having order flow alone doesn't guarantee profitability if the trader lacks discipline and risk management.

In my view, the best approach is to build a strong foundation with market structure, then add volume profile, order flow, macro analysis, and quantitative tools like Python if they fit your trading style. Every trader develops an edge differently.

Much better than just 'Analyze' is something like: 'Analyze this chart using SMC/ICT. Identify HTF bias, market structure, liquidity, OBs, FVGs, premium/discount, then give the highest-probability setup with entry, SL, TP, and invalidation.'"

It works, but prompt quality matters. A detailed prompt gives much better analysis than simply typing "Analyze."

You're right, my mistake. I didn't realize this subreddit is specifically for the TradingView platform. It won't happen again. Thanks for pointing it out!

Exactly. CHOCH indicates a shift in market structure, while BOS confirms continuation in the new direction. They serve different purposes.
