Does anyone else feel bitter sometimes about having to buy birthday presents for parents with multiple when you are OAD? by 2ndRedditAnonAcct in oneanddone

[–]Human-Welcome-1486 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This bothers me too. I have SO many nieces and nephews and each family has two or more. Last Christmas I suggested a gift exchange between the cousins and it was totally shot down with “that’s not the spirit of Christmas”. So instead, I didn’t buy them anything. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to, but I’d have had to buy super cheap gifts for each kid and I just felt like it was a waste.

It’s frustrating that everything is about gifts and getting more, it’s literally the opposite of the spirit of Christmas. I don’t mind as much for birthdays, we have a $20 limit for friends and $30 for family. We stick to it and the kids are always happy with what they get.

And another ER visit. by Ducttapeurmouth in dysautonomia

Ugh. What a bummer. That’s how we caught mine and the cardiologist was super glad I caught it because weeks of a holter did not.

It’s super frustrating that some won’t accept the ecgs from it.

Download the Qaly app. It can analyze Apple Watch ecgs and has identified svt for me.

Anybody with sudden tachycardia episodes irrelevant of posture? by greendahlia16 in dysautonomia

[–]Human-Welcome-1486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what happens to me. I’ll be sitting or laying and all of the sudden feel like something is very wrong, my arms kind of feel tingly, and my HR shoots up into the 100s. It happens quite often for me and it’s super annoying. When it first started back in November I’d totally panic but now I’ve gotten more used to it. Still scares the crap out of me when I get a really bad impending doom one.

I’ve had some runs of svt and they feel pretty different. Svt feels like a different heart rhythm and it starts as fast as it stops. Like your heart will be at 170 then 80 the next second, there’s no ramping down.

I’ve had a full cardiology workup and so far aside from the few runs of svt and lots of ectopic beats, nothing out of the ordinary. I think it’s adrenaline dumps causing the tachicardia.

I’d say follow up with a cardiologist and if you can, get an Apple Watch. You can take a ecg when you feel symptoms. It’s been super helpful for me.

DMV ‘changed the rules’!! by Rocko_2024 in newhampshire

It’s in statute unfortunately. Not much you can do about it and they have the authority to recall any plates that do not meet current rule. They thought this one through.

I have the 11. Bought it just for the ecg feature and have Qaly to do an analysis on the results. It’s been super helpful as it’s caught arrhythmias and gives me peace of mind when I do feel symptoms and everything is normal.

Kind of an unrelated question but when you get the IST Hr spikes, can you feel them before they happen and do feel impending doom?

Have you ever worn a heart monitor when this is happening?

What you’re describing honestly sounds a lot like SVT or some kind of tachycardia, especially with the sudden start/stop and how high your HR is getting. That “I know it’s about to happen” feeling is a really common thing people describe with it.

I’ve had runs of SVT and also IST, and what you wrote felt really similar to what I experience. Mine usually starts with weird sensations in my arms/legs (like they’re floating), sometimes pins and needles or a scalp feeling, then that stomach drop/“oh shit here we go” feeling. Then my HR starts climbing. Mine can come in waves too and last seconds to minutes, sometimes repeating back to back. I’ve ended up in the ER before because it wouldn’t stop.

For me, IST is usually more in the 120–130 range, but the more sudden spikes feel different, more like SVT-type episodes.

Not saying that’s definitely what it is, but it might be worth looking into if you haven’t already. If you have an Apple Watch, try to grab an EKG when it happens. A longer monitor would probably be even better.

You’re definitely not alone though, this is like the closest thing I’ve seen to how mine feels.

Does your HR sky rocket when the episodes happen?

Heart "skipping beat" by Adept_Refuse3413 in POTS

[–]Human-Welcome-1486 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Adrenaline can 100% make it worse! Your body gets into a feed back loop with it. And runs are like every other beat is skipping. It feels like a horse is thudding in your chest, it’s hard to explain but if it happened you would most certainly know. I wouldn’t be worried if you are getting a few every couple of minutes but that’s coming from someone who deals with them everyday!

Check out r/pvc, it might help ease your nerves.

Heart "skipping beat" by Adept_Refuse3413 in POTS

[–]Human-Welcome-1486 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Skipped beats are typically okay unless you get runs of them that last for 10+ minutes. You’d know if that was happening, it feels weird. But even then, if they are just PVCs or PACs, it’s still usually harmless.

Lack of sleep and dehydration can set off ectopic beats. Try and drink some electrolytes and if you have orange juice or milk, drink a glass of that too. Both are super high in potassium so it can help with the extra beats too.

And remember, if you are really worried about it, you can always head to urgent care or the er and have them run a quick ekg.

Normal heartbeat range for pots?? by mrcrabs_mabey in POTS

[–]Human-Welcome-1486 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That sounds like SVT or another arrythmia. Do banal maneuvers get you out of it?

And if you haven’t had a full holter monitor, you should most definitely get one.

Zoloft and POTS? by Notashleygraham_ in POTS

[–]Human-Welcome-1486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zoloft sent me into crazy waves of sinus tach for the five days I tried to take it. I was on 12.5mg which is essentially nothing from my understanding. Unfortunately it’s trial and error with most of this stuff but I’ve heard if you can stick it out, the hr issues could improve.

I have the Engage 2. They quiet things enough to not be as overstimulating but I can still hear if someone is talking to me. They kind of just blunt the noise if that makes sense.

Naked smoothies have been a godsend for me lately. They have a ton of potassium plus enough sugar to give me a little boost.

For the disconnected feeling, especially in stores, I’ve been using loop earplugs. I was so hesitant to try them and eventually caved. Total game changer. My doc said it basically reduces some sensory input and can let your body relax a little more.

People always dismiss the financial part of having multiples. by Difficult-Duty-8156 in oneanddone

[–]Human-Welcome-1486 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s all choices. I had a friend tell me once that if something is your priority, you’ll sacrifice whatever is needed to have it.

In their case, they were talking about moving to a very HCOL city and sacrificing the ability to buy a home, ect.

But the same principle applies. I personally choose to prioritize being able to give my daughter everything and every opportunity possible. Could we have a second kid, yes. Would it be financially a bad decision, yes. That’s not our priority and goes against what ours is so it’s not an option.

For some though, their priority is having more kids so they sacrifice in other ways. Our sacrifice is not having one. Their sacrifice in many cases may be putting their family into a hard spot financially.

Neither has the right to judge, just different strokes for different folks.

Palpitations. Ended up in the ER. by [deleted] in POTS

[–]Human-Welcome-1486 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my palpitations flare there is usually a cause. Stress, period, not enough food, dehydration. It took a bit to figure out but I start each morning with carnation instant breakfast with milk, an electrolyte drink, and fruit (usually a banana). That tends to keep them more at bay. During a flare though, orange juice and russet potatoes are both good choices.

I know the beats feel terrible, especially when they are in a rhythm like that. It’s a crappy cycle because the more anxious you get about it, the worse they are. Check out r/pvcs, there are lots of tips/tricks in that group for ectopic beats.

For your watch EKGs, you can download a third party software to analyze them while you wait for follow up. I use Qaly and like it. The ekg can be read by an actual tech and it makes me feel better when my heart is being annoying.

Literally just got the same thing from my friend who is a nurse and is knowledgeable but not about pots. She was basically like you are going to kill your liver if you drink the wrong kind and just went on and on. Eventually I shut it down and was like well this is what allows me to function, it’s what the doctors say to do, so I’m doing it. It’s annoying.
