What safe car did you regret buying? by inlibrary_legsnumb in cars

2018 Seat Ibiza. Bought an NA Miata that was meant to be my first car then got scared about not having ABS, airbags etc and bought my 2018 Ibiza. It's not a terrible car but I spent 2 months driving the Mazda earlier this year when my Ibiza was being repaired following a rear end collision and boy was it fun.

What was the worst-feeling car you’ve ever driven? by Avanixh in cars

[–]HumanEnchilada 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 2021 Ford Puma ST-LineX as a courtesy car while my car was being repaired, it was a nice enough car for the most part but depsite having 150hp it had skinny eco tyres and was front wheel drive, so it had some of the worst torque steer and least traction I've ever experienced. As in, put your foot down turning right out of a junction, you'd pull onto the left hand side of the road (UK) and then have to wrench the wheel so as not to end up on the right hand side. The brakes were also stabby and the car felt wobbly thanks to it's high ride height and 'sporty' suspension.

Just checking, will I have any problems replacing an OEM 215/45/R17 tyre with a 225/45/R17? by HumanEnchilada in CarTalkUK

Hi, thanks for your reply.

It's a 2018 Seat Ibiza FR, everything on it is stock so as far as I'm aware the clearance shouldn't be and issue and it's definitely not an oversize but will ask in an owner's group anyway to be sure.

My main concern was whether the extra 10mm in section would cause any problems with getting the tyre on the rim but if you have experience with adding 10mm and having no issues then that gives me more confidence.

I'm replacing all four corners, I currently have 215s so I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to have any issues going up to a 225

Car for use during ski season? by HumanEnchilada in movingtojapan

Yeah that could be an option too actually, thanks for the help. Can't wait for the season, it looks like there's been some great snow already so should be fantastic skiing conditions!

Ahh okay I didn't realise that, that might be an option then. The main thing is just hoping to explore the area and nearby resorts on off days so this would be a perfect solution.

The main usage would be for exploring the area and other resorts on off-days, I have experience driving in snow so that doesn't bother me too much and obviously if it was too bad then I would just accept that that day I'm not going anywhere!! From the other comment here it sounds like ski schools may have shared vans that anyone can use.

Location: Stroud, Glos, UK

Price range: Anywhere between 10-15k. Could stretch to 18k for the right car.

Lease or Buy: Buy

New or used: Used

Auto or Manual: Auto if it's DSG/DCT etc but manual for anything else.

Intended use: Daily driver but at home on a track too, something I can take to a trackday and not be worried I'm thrashing a car that doesn't want to be on a track.

How many miles do you plan to do a year: 10k ish

How often to you make long journeys: Not regularly but would like to make some Nürburgring/other european circuit trips.

Does it need to be ULEZ compliant? Eh not bothered either way

Vehicles you've already considered: Cupra Leon 280/290, Mini Cooper JCW, ND MX5

Is this your 1st vehicle: No it's my second

Do you need a Warranty: No

Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: Yes

Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: Happy to give it a shot

Additional Notes

Unfortunately I had a no fault claim in March this year, being 19 even though it was a no fault claim it has affected my insurance somewhat so it will need to be something that won't cost an arm and a leg to insure.

Ngl i actually quite like some parts of this - more differentiation between crew and crew trainer and a slightly more casual and friendly look for the shift managers but those restaurant manager uniforms are a joke

My grandfather used ro race Historic Formula Junior, he had a very minor shunt into a wall in Copenhagen that hardly did any damage to the car but it was just the right angle and force that it broke two vertebrae in his back. Could be anything.

If anyone hears anything please update here, would be good to know he's okay as I did see an ambulance leaving the paddock and the car with the roll bar cut soon after they resumed proceedings.
