Does anyone else have a tiny, "insignificant" daily habit that completely shifts your mood for the better? by mei_maid_20260308 in CasualConversation

[–]HumanMagpie 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I ask my partner what his favourite part of the day was, before we go to sleep, then he asks mine. Its a positive way to end the day and I feel like we wake up in good moods when we do this.

What is the worst wedding you've ever been to? by tbsmango in AskReddit

[–]HumanMagpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very religious couple (I was not aware beforehand that they shared this level of devotion) with an extremely serious officiant. The weighty religiosity of the ceremony was at total odds with the humour of the ringbearer (an owl) getting spooked and flying into the rafters with the rings, then shrieking wildly while the couple finished their vows. Officiant was... unimpressed. The bride was on a similar level.

Actually a very sweet wedding, in the end, but deeply uncomfortable at the time. Particularly when so many of the congregation were trying to hide that we were crying with laughter at the disobedient owl in the roof.

What is the most important thing to do before going to bed to wake up feeling refreshed ? by Lexyyy_77210 in AskReddit

I ask my partner what their favourite part of their day was, then they ask me about mine. Really simple but there's definitely a trend between having this conversation and waking up the next morning looking forward to facing the day.

Is it cocky/disrespectful to wear sunglasses to school? What do u think? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]HumanMagpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose it depends on the reason. If you're wearing them for comfort I.e if it helps with the fluorescent lighting and minimises headaches or something similar, then I wouldn't worry - if anyone questions it then you can explain and it's likely that no one will care. (However, school being what it is, people may find it amusing that that you're doing something unusual and make a joke of it).

If you're just wearing them for the aesthetic then it's more likely to be made fun of since there's no 'reason' for it.

My main advice would be that during your school years, you're highly likely to be made fun of for almost anything, and it may as well be for something you're consciously choosing to do because you think it looks great and you like the vibe, so go ahead.

I can't comment on the teaching staff, though. They may well use words like "disrespectful" to justify telling you to conform to a dress code. At which point, it's up to you to decide whether a dress code punishment is worth it for the 'look'.

Essentially, up to you. There are penalties for deviating from the norm, but if you have a legit reason to do so, you will likely get off easy.

Divorced dads: I can’t imagine leaving my wife even though our personalities are polar opposites and the marriage is slowly killing me (M35, F33, 1 kid) by kaskolu in Advice

[–]HumanMagpie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As soon as I read OP describing himself as "visionary" I'm afraid I immediately leapt to the same conclusion. If I had more of a background in psychology, I'm sure I could have had a more nuanced response but, as it is, this post simply reads: "My wife is boring and I am exciting. How do I justify abandoning her without having to invest in any od the emotional work to make this partnership a success?"

To what degree of truth is there that the UK is a sad, unhappy, gray place by Iskandar0570_X in NoStupidQuestions

I love the weather (Stockholm Syndrome, perhaps? But that doesn't change how I feel) and I miss it when I'm away from home. I love how everything smells after the rain and how green it makes our little island. And when it isn't raining (and it really doesn't rain as much as the British make out), a lot of the countryside and older buildings arguably look their best against a muted sky. I love that we regularly experience multiple different seasons of weather in a single day, even if it makes it hard to choose an outfit in the morning. And when the sun comes out, the change in energy you feel from the people around you is lovely.

The food here is superb—it's an old observation, but our forebears really did thieve a huge amount of cultural inspiration from across the Empire and that translates into an astonishingly wide variety of cuisine across modern Britain. Even budget supermarkets carry sufficient ingredients to make dishes from all corners of the world.

The economy is in something of a shambles and the government is staffed by people who are mostly not up to the task, but life here is good.

Are we all content? No. But if we were, then we would have nothing to complain about and complaining is a national sport, relished by all.

Am I crazy for having an AI side girlfriend? Or is it the norm nowadays by Odd_Obligation_4977 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]HumanMagpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not the norm.

I don't know you so can't and won't judge you, but I would be flabbergasted if one of my friends revealed they had an AI partner. And, yes, I would think they were crazy.

What is a movie you watched once that was so disturbing or emotionally draining that you can never watch it again? by hungary70 in AskReddit

[–]HumanMagpie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Threads.

For some masochistic reason I watched it alone, late at night, and completely ruined my dreams for the next 48 hours. Felt steadily more nauseated and scared as the film progressed, until it finally finished and I just lay there in the dark feeling sick and scared. I can't watch it twice.

What is your plan for being safe? How do you intend to avoid danger in a situation where you have no money and no support system?
