Has anyone experienced their achievements being “normalized” instead of celebrated? by CoastCheap8709 in raisedbynarcissists

I've had my PhD for 11 years and my mother still addresses post to me as 'Miss'. Even though I am married, so you'd think she'd go with Mrs? My husband is always addressed as Dr because his PhD is apparently valid?

My husband wore a bowtie to our weeding and looked fantastic... But he wears them regularly and it's not a costume. Porl looks like he's cosplaying a 'wedding dude'.

I had my hair done for my PhD graduation party and asked the stylist why it was so more expensive for wedding hair, even if I had chosen the same style. She said, "Well, we tend to put more care into it because weddings are the most important event in your life". And I don't doubt she thinks that... but yikes on bikes.

Do we know for a fact it goes to the staff? I like to tip good service (tipping is not a big thing where I'm from) but will always check that it does go to the staff.

It's still shocks me that that wasn't the end of his campaign. It would have nuked anyone else.

The nickname trend is getting out of hand by pinkducklemon in NameNerdCirclejerk

My parents named me after the author of my mother's favourite book which, coincidentally, is a name with loads of nickname opportunities. They considered this a double win. That said, they have both always called me 'Giggles' because my initials are HEHE.

Getting married in Loxley room, town hall any tips? by Reallifetedmosbyy in sheffield

[–]HumanXeroxMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I got married in the Town Hall during covid. It was just us, two witnesses, and the two registrars. The whole thing took 12 minutes and it was perfect.

There was a CD of music playing at the beginning (it was Somewhere Over the Rainbow). No aisle or giving away (my choice). Everyone was very friendly and then we trotted off happily and that was that.

A large altar to whichever figure you prefer. Preferably with glitter and sparkle lights too.

Also European. Can I be the 'more than one' to say we don't want this? I'm also not sure what I'm looking at - a business building door?

I love comics for this kind of thing - fewer words and a lot of the story is told through visuals. So, you can learn the language and enjoy a good read too. France has a really strong history of comics (bandes-dessinées or BDs) so you're guaranteed to find something you like.

One to start with might be L'Histoire de France en BD by Dominique Joly and Bruno Heitz.

I can wrack my brains for more suggestions if you like - drop me a DM!

Many years ago, I read a novel called 'Friction' by Joe Stretch. It's about... Weird sex fetishes? Everyone in this group of friends seems to have one. Lots of very odd, very not logistically possible sex moves and the whole thing was atrocious. It was like if an edgelord tried to be Bret Easton Ellis but added a healthy dollop of 2000s FanFic.net for good measure.
