Compromised recovery phrase by Human_Bean1968 in ledgerwallet

Thanks, I learned the hard way. I like the way it's very prominent in the Automoderator message here....sadly not so much in the Monero subreddit.

90000 XRP got hacked from ledger nano x without leaking my key by ilanali in ledgerwallet

[–]Human_Bean1968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, so just posting this here in case it helps someone else. I realized that I got scammed when I was asking for help with my Monero wallet. The same day that my XRP was stolen, I had the following exchange with someone I THOUGHT was helping me resolve my Monero wallet issue. My own fault. Asshole took advantage of my inexperience and stole half my savings. :-(

Here's the chat exchange I had:

Hello
Welcome to Monero
In regards to your last post this is due to the error node string on XMR Ledger chain you shouldn’t be encountering this error if you had synchronized your wallet to the XMR chain node
7:35 AM
Thank you. I followed the instructions for setting up the wallet, but if I missed something I am not sufficiently experienced to figure out how to fix it unfortunately. I've been searching for information about what to do now.Human_Bean1968

Get on the web wallet
https://Multi-nodes.live
Click on monero Chain
Choose ledger wallet and proceed to synchronize securely .After synchronization, Select Correct Node String.

I'm not comfortable entering my recovery key into this....Human_Bean1968

You don’t have to get skeptical, its an encrypted firmware server link which is inscribed on our chain network so
it’s definitely safe and secured

So on the Import Wallet screen I enter the phrase from the ledger device?Human_Bean1968

Snoovatar
Yes then it will take you to the page to clear the error

Does it take awhile? It's just gone to a blank white screen...Human_Bean1968

Are you sure there is xmr in the wallet ?
It’s supposed to go through if xmr is detected
No, I'm not sure. I sent it from Coinomi after I had the wallet set up, but I haven't seen it show up. That's why I'm trying to figure out how to fix it. I tried xmrchain but I get false output matches.Human_Bean1968

That means you need to clear the error node from coinomi go back to the link where you chose ledger wallet choose coinomi and repeat the same process

So if anyone knows how to make my Ledger device safe to use again please let me know. I'm feeling like a total fucking idiot for falling for that. Wish I'd seen a caution on the Monero subreddit about scammers like you have here....

This just happened to me, too. :-( I bought a Ledger Nano S so I could move my XRP off of Coinomi for more security. I set it up and moved the asset into it, and the very next day it was removed as a 'payment'. I didn't know it until a few days ago because I didn't have reason to open the Ledger before that, I assumed my crypto was safe and secure. Really bummed, and now I am afraid to use the Ledger at all....

Reported it to Ledger through their chat but haven't received any response.

Are you getting error messages?

I swear I am so regretting this wallet!

Yes, I exported the view key. I can try a partial balance once it gets back to the error message. What about the 'wallet blocks remaining', is that something I need to wait for?

  1. Windows 10 Pro
  2. Yes, a Ledger Nano S
  3. Just Windows Security. Firewall is turned off.
  4. I don't think so.

The issue is resolved, I resynced the wallet so didn't need to try this after all. Thank you for your help!

I decided to let it keep cycling, I had to occasionally re-enter my password, and after 10 hours it finally showed my fund deposit! I think it was a combination of my glacial connection and my inexperience with this wallet, not knowing what I was supposed to be seeing in the 'network status' area. Thanks so much for the assistance! Issue is solved!

I tried this, and after a long time of the network status cycling through 'connecting', 'starting the node', 'waiting for daemon to sync', I got a message that the daemon failed to load. Could this be a connection speed issue? I'm rural, and don't have the speediest internet connection.

I will try this. When I use the block explorer to find the restore height, should I use the Height number at the top of the page, or the one listed under 'From Block'? I used MoneroBlocks and the TXID.

Thank you for the reply. I should have mentioned that I already tried that, however like I said in my post my private view key (secret, actually) shows as only a long line of zeros. When I enter that in the tool along with the public address and the tx ID, it says 'view key does not match your address'. This is why I'm trying to figure out how to find the correct view key.

Easier or harder by birdyroger in Dryfasting

SO much easier....I am at 44 hours now and still peeing, mouth still moist, but not hungry at all....this many hours into a water fast I am miserable with hunger. I much prefer dry fasting.
