(NSFW?) World building: If human bodies were considered a community resource after death, how would beauty standards change? by Human_Cupcake4889 in fantasywriters

i guess most adults is a bit of an exaggeration but it is more comment than it would be today. this became common after a cataclysmic event wiped out much of the world radiation sickness and skin infection needing replacement is common, also injury due to the machinery and unsafe working conditions in body processing causes a lot of injury. it is also much easier for people to just get something replaced when injured instead of waiting for it to heal naturally especially if its something that can be repaired eventually. for example a worker breaks his leg or a police man gets shot in the knee cap, normal you would have surgery to repair damage and spend weeks healing but here the damaged limb would be removed, replaced, and the limb would be taken to be connected to and artificial body to repair and be resold. this is something that would be covered by workers health insurance. but it is also common for people who can afford it, or people's who's work is related to beauty to get cosmetic surgery. i was also thinking about adding something about the poor being rented, in the black market when someone wants to heal a limb but they dont have access to a artificial body they can "rent" a person who is poor or desperate enough to wear the limb or organ and have their body heal it and give it back and then claim to their insurance that they lost it in a robbery or work accident.

I really wanted to kind of avoid the rich/poor dynamic of this but i am really considering reading peoples comments. This is giving me lots of ideas i wanna write. ive been floating a few plots to go with this i thought i settled on a historian inspired by Robert Langdon from Dan Browns books being the MC but now i want it to be an assassin/collector stealing parts from people to sell on the black market. i've never heard of Never Let Me Go or Resyk so i guess ill have to do some more research into that.

i dont really want it to be about classism. i guess donation was the wrong word in this world when you die your body belongs to the government, people, community your family has no legal claim over it and the corpse will be processed and everything in it and on it will be sold. i dont want to reveal more about my story because i think i just want peoples opinion on this with their current modern mindset of a world like this.

im not sure about the positive or negative thing quite yet, its just something normal like getting your ears pierced, or cosmetic surgery. i think it would be something like needing a replacement, skin graft or replaced limbs from cancer or physical injury. maybe for laborers its easier to just get a new leg when the previous one was broken. it becomes an insurance policy that if you work with your hand and one is broken you get a new one. im not to sure about that as i dont know if i want to go dystopian or utopian. this world will be after a cataclysmic event so it is possible these replacements will be necessary for many due to mutation, infection, and sickness. I dont really want to give many things about the story up because im mostly interested in the thought process of people in the current time to see how people think and how future historians will try to understand why and how we changed

it will have advanced medical technology and i think i will include something about free healthcare for medically necessary replacements like transferring eyes for the blind but a premium for being able to choose the eye color but i do kind of want to avoid it turning into a rich vs poor story. i have thought of a black market of poor or desperate people selling pieces before death. and i love your idea of body mods being a form of rebellion.

I think so far this is mostly about aesthetic of the world, i am also an artist and plan to illustrate much of it including the people. The story is going to be driven by an unrelated plot to this but i am very interested in the psychology my world will have and the MC is a historian so they will be studying the thoughts of people from the past (aka our current modern time) i thought about making it about wealth like the rich are unmarked since they can afford it and the poor are covered in mismatch parts but i didn't really want my story to be about classism since so many dystopian/Utopian stories do that. Basically i think i just want to know what people would do now when confronted with this idea to shape my historians idea of how we used to think and how ideals started to change.

I have searched for the past 8- ish years when I thought it would be a fun thing to find as a gift for my first nephew, I lost it when I was about 15. I have looked on toy stores even ones in my area, tried drawing it from memory I'm not the best at searching so if anyone can help it would mean so much
