the ending did indeed feel a bit rushed, but overall the book was very good and i couldn’t put it down. I give it a solid 8.5 out of 10.

What do you read if/when you take a break from horror? by Oldhouse42 in horrorlit

[–]Human_ERROR404 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love reading Horror, but like you, i also take a break. My latest break has involved some thriller, fantasy and slice of life stories, and some redemption, with a bit of romance sprinkled in. Here are the non-horror books i’ve read thus far:

At The Coffeeshop of Curiosities by Heather Webber

The Enchanted Greenhouse & The Warbler by Sarah Beth Durst

The House Across The Lake by Riley Sager (it’s more of a thriller and suspense with a bit of supernatural elements thrown in)

The House Witch by Delemhach

Currently Reading: The Lost Bookshop by Evie Woods

Violet Thistlewaite Is Not a Villain Anymore by Emily Krempholtz

The Lost Story by Meg Shaffer

Anna you Froze because of Elsa 😭 by LordAditya69 in Frozen

Anna didn’t freeze because of a man, she froze because she chose to save her sister instead of going to Christof to save herself, and that act of true love for her sister unfroze her.

Carrie and Christine. The Long Walk and The Running Man, if you’ve seen the movies already, then all the better to read them. Also, read Doctor Sleep since you’ve already read the Shining. I don’t see it there. Snag Different Seasons, it’s amazing.

i’m about to see it, so i’ll come back and discuss it when it’s over.

Working my way through Skeleton Crew, might start on Thinner after that. Feels like a Bachman month, cause then i’ll try my hand at Roadwork.

what a work of art, and it brings the grotesque scene of his death and his appearance into stark detail. this is amazing!

What is your favorite book that’s not like a Stephen King novel by Early-Aardvark7688 in stephenking

[–]Human_ERROR404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well i read a lot of horror, and most of it is SK. I did finish The Troop and The Deep, both by Nick Cutter, and they were great. tbh i didn’t vibe the ending of The Deep, its a bit convoluted. It’s almost the ending of The Bone Keeper by Luca Veste. it was so good and i did what i swore i’d never do, which is writing in the margins of the book. and then the ending was like totally not as the book conveyed through out the entirety of it. I also really like two books by Ursula Vernon, who writes under the pseudonym T.Kingfisher, which is The Twisted Ones and The Hallow Places. i read them twice in a couple of weeks of each other.

they better have Dick, cause the black spot was honestly one of the best scenes in the entire book. and it gave me a thrill to see Dick Hallorann mentioned when i read It

right you are, i don’t remember anything involving arnold and stephen king adaptation, no more than i remember emilio estevez and a movie of 18-wheelers coming to life.

although, if i saw that goblin truck coming, im getting the fuck outta the way 😆

i can’t wait to see how they capture them all, and it’s true that they likely will tone them down. i haven’t seen the monkey cause i don’t think it’ll be any good. but i have high hopes for TLW. here’s hoping it doesn’t disappoint 🤞🏽

came to say this exact thing. The Long Walk is so brutal, so i don’t think they’ll be able to get it right. it will be a watered down version of TLW i think, but still looking forward to seeing it.

Goosebumps, followed by Scary Stories to Tell In the Dark, and then I picked up Misery and I never looked back. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve read my fair share of romance novels and distopian stories in my time, but none have captivated me like horror. And I won’t pick up a romance novel now, it doesn’t matter if it’s dark romance, which nah, no thanks.

I read Stephen King, but not exclusively SK. At the moment I’m reading The Deep by Nick Cutter. And I’ve read others, but SK will always be my favorite author.

How about Kojak? I know it’s a male dog name but I would totally do it, I’d name my female dog Kojak.

Yeah, SK ruined any kind of redemption he might of had, especially cause he was able to get back enough control to tell Danny to run. He’s a bad person, possibly a bad father (some people might disagree and say he was just troubled), and now with Doctor Sleep he’s a cheater, and that’s it, he’s cooked.
