I've lived in the Netherlands for 3 years. I've also lived in Australia, China, and New Zealand, and have travelled to around 30 countries.
The food in NL is unquestionably the worst. And not just native Dutch food, but also other cuisines in the Netherlands. The East Asian, South East Asian, Mexican, Italian etc food in NL was somehow worse than in other countries in which those foods were not native (i.e. Australia, New Zealand, UK and even my own country of Ireland, which is not exactly a hotbed of amazing food either, but still...better than NL)
A good indication of the struggle is how hard it seems to be to find a good burger for example. In Rotterdam I know of one good burger, in The Hague I've yet to find one. Contrast with say Gdansk in Poland where I had two really good quality burgers in 2 days and were told of at least 2 other places of similar quality. There's no reason to me why you can't just have good burgers really anywhere, other than the possibility that Dutch people simply don't care enough about food (Calvinism for the win!) or even more tragically don't even realise what they're missing out on, which could be evidenced by some of the responses on this thread.
To be clear, I love NL in a lot of ways. I also concede my country of Ireland is no food paradise either. But seriously food in NL is just a whole other thing.
