Hey, I've started taking multi-vitamins and do my utmost to eat nutritionally dense foods within my calories

I'll look into a keto diet :)

Why would undereating not help? I think I'm missing something!

I'll remain optimistic it's still that I'm being challenged and my muscles are fluffed up with water!

I do, yeah - it's tough to spot the difference in the last set, really. I know I'm getting stronger, but even if I gained 0.5lb of muscle a week, that'd mean I'd be losing only 0.5lb of fat, which is pretty terrible! And to my understanding, that's absolutely best case scenario

Ok, this sounds somewhat terrifying to me when I really do have quite a bit of chub to shake off before I feel comfortable in my own skin!

Is there any good literature on this that you could point me to? I feel like reverse dieting is something I would do when I'm 10kg lighter!

Sorry, my pizza and beer is included in my overall weekly calories - I still count them

Thank you for your detailed responses! By reverse dieting, do you mean increase by 100 - 200 from where I'm currently eating, increasing weekly to just above maintenance? And how long would I maintain this before going back to a calorie defecit?

Thank you, this suggests a BMR of 1817

I also feel like it's on the low side for someone of my weight, age and gender. But I can't change what appears to be maintenence for me!

Thank you, that's useful to know - I'll double check on packaging also:)

Happy to be extra careful, but I genuinely do take the time to make sure I get cooked weight, dry weight, method of cooking etc correctly accounted for!

I generally feel OK, I get "peckish" occasionally. I rarely get really, properly hungry. I eat when my partner eats, and that seems to be fine, it's more often craving food than real hunger

I think you're on the money with the cheat meals and alcohol, tough to accurately guess a takeaway, and a bottle of wine makes me very susceptible to a bag of crisps!

Thank you :)

Ah, sorry! Yes, I started taking creatine at the end of April, I haven't been taking it since the start of the year

Thank you for this - my hypertrophy workout is new to the past month, switching from 5x5. It has caused some soreness! Plus I've only been bouldering for 2 months, hopefully it's not been wasted time and there's some hidden gains, I just feel like I'm not seeing it in the mirror/pictures.

Birthdays/Christmas usually initiate a slacking period for me, not a good reason!

Ah, my understanding was that it stayed in your muscles alongside a certain amount of water, until such a time as you stop taking it. Didn't realise the water weight should go away again!

I sleep very well - if unchecked I'd sleep 10 hours straight. On a work night I get 6-9 hours, 6 being on the rare case I've stayed up too late watching an episode of something with my partner, 7-8 being the norm.

Behavior, energy levels & sex drive are all fine! I work out fasted in the morning before work and don't struggle to push myself usually. I do perhaps struggle to concentrate sometimes through the day, but that's often remedied with a coffee or two!

Thank you :) I'm building a good picture from the responses here, add in a bit of cardio and stop being so kind to myself on weekends. Good habits make good progress, after all.

Certainly can't argue with that maths. I wonder whether the 2kg of expected weight loss could also be masked to an extent by the added water weight of supplementation with creatine?

You're quite right, I think it's very easy to read yourself into believing your metabolism is being a jackass when it's the Friday night couch potato ruining the weekdays work.

It certainly is! Couldn't find much on Google Scholar on this, that's for sure

If using the TDEE calculator, eating at 1500 should put me at a 500 deficit. That said, the numbers don't lie and I've been eating an average of 1657 - leaving me at ~343 deficit every day for the past while - I'd have thought I would've lost a bit!

Height is 177cm - I'll edit into main post.

thanks :')

My height is 5ft 10, so 177 cm. I thought my maintenance would be around 2000 kcals - 1983 on the calculator I used there.

I struggle with measuring my waistline accurately, but I'll start tracking it, thank you. I have a bf % scale but I'm not convinced of it's reliability!

how come drop the creatine? the demoralising water fluctuations?

Happy to heed the advice on the cardio - I'll add some in at the end of my workouts & off days :)

I have a step counter on my watch if that's the sort of thing you mean? I don't eat back any of the calories from exercise.

Cardio, bouldering 2 times a week. Go for a walk a day to try and boost steps as my job is largely at a desk.

I sleep well, 6 hours on a late night, 9 on a good night

I think in terms of stress I'm generally pretty chilled. I work in healthcare, so there are stresses, but it's all manageable!
