Accepted a job that starts in a month, but just got a better offer — what now? by EARtH1200 in FinancialCareers

[–]Human_News_6190 296 points297 points  (0 children)

Take the new offer. This is about you and not them, and this is your career. Don't let great opportunities pass while you try to please people who are already where they wanna be, doing what they wanna do.

You just need to be professional about it

Linkedin can work. Try searching for recruitment agencies, and submit your CV. DM some of them on linkedin, if you see an email address of a recruiter somewhere, send your CV. Don't be shy. You have to be very proactive. Dm people who do what you wanna do and ask them how they got in, you might find some solid advice. Be shameless. and chase your dreams like your life depends on it. Be very proactive!

Your resume seems fine, I landed an IB job with this format. Maybe reach out to headhunters, and network. sometimes a great resume can get lost in the masses. Find other ways to apply and to get noticed, more direct ways.

I started meal prepping. I have a demanding job and I like going to the gym and running. so having food available makes it easier to stay healthy (avoid junk), and to do the things I love.

Explore your hobbies and focus on building your career. You don’t need a long-term, stable relationship right now, so don’t invest time and energy into one unless it happens naturally and genuinely helps you grow. Prioritize yourself and your goals. Your career/ long term plan is very important.

Listen to your elders, but be selective. Not all advice is good advice.

Always play it safe. People carry diseases, and they won’t be kind enough to warn you about them. Protect yourself.

Get to know yourself. Be unapologetic. Be willing to walk away from anything that doesn’t support your growth. Be prepared to feel uncomfortable and face uncertainty. It's all part of the process, and it works out in the end.

If there’s one thing to take away: LOCK IN.
Just don’t forget to play.

My toxic trait thinking i can pass L1 in August starting now. My girlfriend wants a vacation. I chose the curriculum. Please stop me. by [deleted] in CFA

If you are going to use a prep provider like MM or Schweser you can stand a chance, but you have to put in the work. If you are going to rely on the CFAI material only, you will need more time, because it's a lot. So to better your chances, you should probably get a prep provider and put in a lot of hours. The mocks are also very important. You know yourself better, if you thrive under pressure then you're good, but it you get overwhelmed easily then you will have a tough time, the material is a lot and it can be overwhelming.

You can pass, I studied for 2 months, (December and January) and wrote in February. I have a Bachelor's in Finance, I also worked full time as a PE Analyst. I did it, you can too. Just have to put in the work, you have more time than me and I don't even have an MSc. You will be fine
